Went to Mainsgill farm shop with Mrs W for a spot of lunch and took her car for a change. It’s a Seat Leon with the DSG gearbox so we stopped at some lights and I popped it into neutral “ what did you do there “ she asked so I went through the whole explanation as to why it was good practice mechanically to select neutral while stationary etc and she’s held it in D the whole time she’s had the car which is about four years !
For me, that is the biggest bugbear with the DSG box. Even the IAM issued a special bulletin to observers, stating that drivers should not have the vehicle in D with the handbrake on because the engine management system jacks the engine revs up thinking it’s going to stop you from stalling. Andy
