Let's not be mean...it could be really quite nice when it's finished. (A post glass of wine joke Zhed.. don't take offence!)
Love this thread already... I’m very much of the opinion that the 900ss ie is a bastard child, designed without any respect for the classic carby models. Really looking forward to seeing progress. It can only be better!! Good luck.
So... what's the politics of build threads? - Do you update and then risk never getting finished?? (like investing in a netflix series that is then cancelled just as you are on the edge of the cliff-hanger!! ) This project bike stood in all weathers for about 2 years...oops! Life got in the way (!) To say the bike is tatty is an understatement, I think my original plans (which were admittedly super ambitious) were taken for a knock when I saw how rough the base bike was. Anyways, I decided on a new direction, which is to see if it is possible to fall in love with an ie model.. The work is mainly a cosmetic redo and restoration of very rusty/furry parts, with a slight subtle mod in terms of paint and aesthetics. Photoshop mockup done, but I'll keep you in suspenders until we are close. Anyway.. here goes again. I'll start by modding the title as strictly speaking it's no longer a cafe build!
However the sand blaster is just the base cabinet.. The real goal is a DIY Aquablaster.. Test fitting of a high output dirty water pump.
fashioned a rough base (water-repellent chipboard - as used in bathrooms) with casters on the bottom...
The pump was a super tight fit, had to trim the base support to fit in the funnel and allow for the mesh floor to just clear the top of the pump. You can see the large bore tubing is where the water/glass bead slurry will come up to the sandblaster gun. The 90 degree small bend is a tube that goes back down to the base of the pump. This will fully agitate the water/bead mix so there isn't any piles of beads sitting in the corners.
The large diameter pipe pokes through the floor ready for a removable screw piece to connect the flexible hose to the gun. Nice rubber floormat added too! (Sexy...cough, cough)
The sandblaster kit comes with a lighting box, with a couple of neon tubes... but the lumens output is quite pathetic... so...
and of course this needs a 12V power supply... ...and that power supply will also power other ancillaries connected to the cabinet.
and the necessary "windscreen wiper".. as water/beads splash everywhere in use. I don't seem to have a pic, but I also rigged up three jets of water coming through an automatic plant watering hose and plastic nozzles.
this is the backside.. waterfilter that will draw from the bottom water reservoir (spray pump to be installed)..then top right is the glass spray with a 12V ball valve operated via a foot switch (as your hands are inside the rubber gloves!). Bottom right leads to a garden hose spray pistol for cleaning the beads off the blasted pieces.
