I was looking at clutch kits, and a few came with 7 frictions and 2 steels? That's a great tip - thanks! After filing down the notches on the basket I've found a new basket and Newfren friction plates for 180, so bought that. Noticed that my steels have a notch cut out of the periphery, must have to go in a certain position...time to check the manual. Oh... and the tyres...Dunlop D208.
I don’t know how long this link will be valid for but I wrote an article on the other channel which will be of benefit to you so I’ve linked here to help you and others when faced with this. https://www.ducati.community/threads/the-ducati-dry-clutch-101.26012/ ps. Admins please don’t remove this it’s of benefit to all.
That's very useful information and expands nicely on the factory manual - much appreciated! Having removed the quickshift, I have no linkage on the gear selector, so I ordered a 150mm length of titanium tube, 7mm o/d and 5mm i/d. I've never worked with titanium and couldn't believe the heat generated just cutting a thread by hand, had to take it very slow and the smoke was pouring off the cutting oil. Eventually got it threaded by working through all three taps, 1 turn in-half turn back. Once tapped I polished the rod on the buffer and the bolts that fix it in place And then fitted to bike, simple and clean. Need to do something about those tacky gold frame bungs - what should be in there? Nothing?
Measured my steel plates, all measured 2.00 (+/- 0.02) except for one measuring 1.50, no obvious sprung plate?
It is quite difficult to find the concave/convex plate, I know on one of mine I couldn’t see the small dot as it was full of hardened clutch dust. It’s definitely not the 2mm plates but do check the 1.5mm plate very carefully again. Place it against one of the 2mm plates and hold it between finger and thumb on one side. Does it lie completely flat ? Turn it over, do the same, does it lie completely flat ? If it is the sprung plate then when doing the above one way round it won’t sit flat.
I honestly don’t know, I’d try eBay but you may have to buy a complete set of steel plates . Many do without it having unknowingly cast it aside. If the clutch works once you’ve reassembled it I’d keep calm and carry on.
Clutch rebuilt. Sorted. Today was spent trying to work out why the neutral light doesn't work. I'm an electronics engineer by trade and spent years working on vehicle electrics so I poured over wiring diagrams then got the multimeter out. The earth side of the lamp was fine, switching to ground when in neutral but there was no positive feed....but the positive side was a black wire which was also grounded, the feed (a light blue wire) went to the oil light which had two positive feeds?? It was obvious that the bike had been wired wrong from day one, it was factory wiring and had never been touched. Cant believe that you'd buy a bike with no neutral and no oil light working and not get that sorted under warranty? Wires swapped over between the two lamp holders and it's all sorted now. Time to give it a good clean and polish.
