I am totally non fussed by the Strobing indicators tbf.. The only reason I mention it is because in the good aftermarket light units where LED bulbs are used, the indicators are strobing. Here: https://transporterhq.co.uk/vw-tran...lights/t6-lights/vw-t6-led-drl-v3-headlights/ Ref the bulkhead, you are absolutely correct, I use proper Wheelchock for the front, and strap down with bar straps, I think though what I'll need to make sure is that I strap the bikes from the rear to the rear of the van so that in a seriously heavy braking incident (like motorway pile up) the bike don't try and join us in the cab! It's not something that I've needed to think about with hire Vans as the chocks go up against the bulkhead. Like you say, swings and roundabouts really.
I saw something on the T6 forum regarding securing bike chocks but wanted to open it up to some others here who have Vito and Transits to understand whether anyone has done similar? basically a guy has a really simple plate and box section steel that slots In where the rear seat mounts are and in effect locks the wheel chock so the bike can’t come forward, here are some pictures, anyone done similar?
I had a piece of plywood that I slotted in against the two front seats. I put some old carpet on the side that pushes against the seats and some blocks of wood where the front tyre sat to hold the front from moving. I also put four tie down points in the top corners on the side. I just used the VW tis down eyes and put a good rivnut into the panel, they come in so handy when securing bikes. i’ve got the VW LED headlights as well, bloody brilliant the auto dip function is great as well. On my old T5’s the lights were absolutely shocking, I put upgraded bulbs in which made a bit of a difference but they were still pretty shocking.
Had SWB T4 with barn doors and now drives a LWB T5 with Tailgate (5Cyl 2.5l, 140BHP). I traveled many times with 2 bikes. I prefer the Tailgate for those rainy days as it offers some shelter. If you are planning on using the van as a daily "commute" then I would probably go for a SWB. Not sticking out in carparks and a tad easier to maneuver.
Yeah, see page 3, I ended up sticking to my guns and getting a SWB, I even prefer the stance on the road tbh, a personal thing of course. I've loaded bikes in a LWB Transporter over the weekend and I can definitely see the advantage, in terms of being able to put ramps and stands in behind with a bit more space. On the headlight thing, I will be looking at a lighting upgrade at some point, probably the Transporter HQ ones, and with LED lamps I imagine, won't be as good as the VW LED OEM I am sure but an improvement. LED Lights is just something that on the used market seem super hard to get, and if you get them it will be missing another piece of spec that I wanted so tricky. What I bought has absolutely everything else perfect spec wise, even better if I find out the app connect has had the CarPlay optioned but I didn't check yet.
The bluetooth works way better than carplay. imo. I see that bus with the wheel chock is in the best colour. Chrome Yellow. As is mine. Ive convinced wifey for air suspension. Muahahah. Just because when she went to a crusty festival t'other weekend she parked on a slope. I said air sus has auto levelling and she was like "oooo" and I was like "muahahah slammed bus here we come". So thats been added to our to do list next. Once I get off my arse and contact CRC in Hythe about roof and bed.
My priority list is (still): 1) Cambelt Service 2) Additional small jobs like door seals and more soundproofing 3) Front Speaker Upgrade 4) Lower it by 30mm probably (mine is a T32, weirdly people say they ride better lowered a bit) 5) Window Blinds 6) Swivel Seat bases 7) Headlight Upgrade
Contact Absolut5 for the speakers. He sold me a set of 200mm focals and tweeters and a wee 400W kenwood miniamp. The min amp fits nicely behind passenger glove box and is just plug n play. The door speakers were an easy fit. The tweeters are in the a-beam trim and you'll need a glue gun to install the new ones. But again very easy to do. Mine is a T32 too. Its on 18" wheels and is a bit wallowey. But its a van and it runs empty all the time. I'd lower with just Bilsteins but mine is a 4Motion and I'd like clearance when and if I need it. (never, but wifey prob would. I dont go to these daft crusty festies) Theres additional door seals called soundslikeagolf. It makes the door close with a nice clunk. Theyre on ebay, cheap and take 5mins to add. Im going to make my own blinds. Wifey doesnt know it yet but shes doing the curtains.
ive got one, the best engine by far, 150k no oil usage, does 40+mpg.. goes like stink, mapped 225bhp, blanked the EGR and DPF delete from low mileage, if its not done id be wary
You are talking about the 'dreaded BiTurbo 180HP' yeah? I was told to avoid, in honesty I'm sure that I'll be having issues with EGR at some point as most people with a diesel who do anything other than super long runs seem to, but hey ho.
yes Phil, as someone said get one with D prefix EGR Valve or blanked, the coating that was used on the early EGR valves was sucked into the bores and was happening around 25-30k mls Had mine blanked and dpf delete, mapped 225bhp by local VW guy for under £300.
Re the Heath Robinson plate, like Drinky I had some ply that I fastened the chock to when using rental vans and then pushed against bulkhead/seats and strapped from the middle or rear forward. Mostly worked ok
