1260 Tyre Pressures

  1. Anyone any more views on this? The Metzeler guide says 42 F&R for 1200 and 1260 Multi with solo rider. Seems firm at the front on that setting. Bike handbook says 36 F & R but that assumes Scorpions. What is the conclusion for Roadtec 01 solo settings?

  2. I changed from Road 5s to Roadtec 01s at the start of the year. I've been running 36 / 36 solo, add a couple of psi in the rear for luggage and 42 psi in the back when carrying a pillion (I ran the same as for Road 5s ). The Roadtec 01s took a bit of getting used to as I've being fitting Michelin Pilot Road 4s / Road 5s for years. I quickly developed confidence in the Roadtec 01s after a long very set ride.

I've just changed them after about 2,500 miles as I didn't think they'd last another 2k - 3k miles on a Scottish tour next week. I ordered at set of Road 5s from Demon Tweeks but they had delivery problems with the rear so I changed the order to Roadtec 01s. I would have preferred the Road 5s for as I think they warm up quicker from cold and inspire more confidence in the wet - so ideal of a tour of Scotland in the autumn :)

  3. I'm on my second set of Roadtec 01 SE's and run them at 36F and 42R as I did with the Scorpions and also Avon 3Dxm's. Solo riding. 42 on the front sounds too high to me.

  4. Michelin Road 5s here, 36 front and rear. Plus 2 on the back with luggage. Seems to work fine for me.

  5. I am running the Bridgestone Battlax T32 GT

So far i have been impressed. Running 36f 38r and increase with load.

  6. What made the decision to go for the SE’s as opposed to the straight 01’s?

  7. Just swapped mine and the 01 SE was the only choice available, newer version of the 01’s apparently. Only ridden back from London on them but they felt good (mind you all new tyres feel good!)

  8. When I met a Metzeler rep he said run the tyres 3lbs less than the Metzeler Technical Data book.
He said they had to go over the top on book pressures for some reason or other.

    I always keep a note of tyre pressures on my phone. I read somewhere, I’m not 100% sure where but according to my note it was the Tech book, however my note says the following;

    Multistrada Tyre pressures

Normal front and back 2:5 bar 36lbs.

    Load front 36

    Load Rear 42

Metzeler 01s 39psi front and rear

    According to the Metzeler catalogue.

But the 1260 they recommend 36psi front and back.

I run Metzeler M9’s and find them a big improvement over the dual purpose standard rubbish tyre and better than a Bridgestone Battlax that I had to distress purchase at one stage.

  9. Still really pleased with my 01 SE’s, I’d say they are the best all round tyre I’ve tried.

  10. Run PR5s, have done since they replaced the PR4.

    Michelin recommend
    34F, 38R solo
    36F, 40R solo + luggage
    36F, 42R two up + luggage

  11. The jury's out for me, as I've yet to fit these to my 1260S. The pair I've got from Demon Tweeks, which were meant to go on for a trip to Scotland next week, that I'm no longer going on due to an imminent grandchild arrival, will now go on in April 2022, when I re-start touring with my bike. I've still got a pair of Scorpion 2's on the bike, which to be fair have been OK, but now squaring off and only went back on the bike as an interim, simply to use them on ride-outs with some buddies in the UK.

  12. Here’s the applications for Roadtec 01 and R1SE

  13. Until about 6 months ago, I had two sets of wheels for my first generation Multistrada 1200, one with Metzeler M7RR’s for scratching and being a hooligan and one with Metzeler Roadtec 01’s for touring. Simply grip (M7RR) over mileage (RT 01). I replaced the 1098R wheels I was using with M7RR’s with a set of (not so quite) lightweight wheels from a Hyper SP and the new M9RR. Quite underwhelmed by the M9RR and as the RT01’s were at the end of their life, I decided to put the M9RR’s on the 1098R (which I don’t ride) and fit the RT01SE instead. Immediately clicked with the tyre and think it’s the best all round tyre I’ve ridden with. Got just under 3000 miles on them but felt with a 1000 mile trip coming up, I’d put a new set on the second set of wheels. Put a 1000 miles through Wales on C roads and goat tracks on the new set and still think the 01SE is the best tyre, ever. My pressures are totally at odds with everyone, I run 2.65bar/38.5psi (f) and 2.5bar/36psi (r). It works for me, there is no unusual wear and I’m guessing on current wear rate, the tyres will last over 4000 miles which is good, considering I averaged 2500 miles on the M7RR’s and 3500 miles on the RT01’s. 14. How do the M7RRs compare to the SE? I’m running 7s at the moment (36f & 42r) and considering 9s next but I’ve heard mixed views.

I do wonder if it’s more tyre than the bike (or me) needs, but I’m happy to sacrifice mileage for grip.

  15. The M7RR was my favourite of all time tyre, awesome performance, if with a short life. I rarely got more than 2500 miles out of a pair. The M9RR felt slower on turn in and lacked feel especially on the edge. If I had to find one adjective to describe the tyre, it would be 'bland'. Done more than 3000 miles on the Roadtec 01SE and I have been hugely impressed. Great feel and feed back and prodigious grip. Not got to the very edge of the tyre but it's a Multistrada when all is said and done. Wouldn't use it as a track tyre but it's close :D Andy

  16. I was on the edge of the standard tyre on the first ride. I’m struggling to get near the edge of the M7RR. I’m hoping that’s more to do with the tyre than me forgetting how to ride.
