(small) Bike Things You've Done Today

  1. It's been a while since we went but the shopping area of their unit is quite small and I’m guessing they still feel it’s necessary to manage the number of customers in the space available to protect the staff. There are still a lot of retail outlets short of staff due to COVID infection. Andy

  2. I also read, as I (like many others) get their frequent newsletter emails, they only allow enough in the shop as the staff they have available so they can give a personalised one on one service.

One may interpret that as they want to force a sale on you but in my experience that’s not the case at all and if nothing is exactly as you, the customer, wants it, so be it, they’d rather not sell you something than have you buy something you later regret (we’ve all done that).

I don’t know where you live @Multirider75 but if you’ve not been, and you’re looking for some new kit, it’s a worthwhile trip and experience.

  3. I’m only about 20 minutes away, and have visited a few times. Chris is very helpful, and has been great in supplying me with kit over the years.

  4. Yes, still following Covid rules and limiting numbers in the shop at any one time. Sort of scuppered my plan for a quick in/out visit...

  5. went to re-commission UglyStrada to find oil filter rusted thru and leaking, but only under pressure so lucky save. Went to Halfords to discover they are discontinuing to stock motorbike oil filters etc, so ordered 3 new/old stock K&N equiv online.

  6. Had a ride to meet the DOC Kent group, 15 bikes, a couple of very nice ones too.

  7. Had a moment to spare so thought I’d clean the air filters on my 749.
Don’t you just love Ducatis? 5 of the 6 air tube bolts removed…one had the dreaded brass insert rotation so wouldn’t come out…
Get drill, drilled head off leaving the bolt still installed in the insert but at least the air tube and filter were off.
Thought - I know, it’s not a 1098 so I’ll remove the air box lid and tackle the insert on the bench…
All the screws removed apart from the farking ridiculous one at the front…
Tried a stubby screwdriver- no chance.
Tried a super long screwdriver but the ignition switch was in the way.
Just remove that then…what a hassle, the domed nuts came off a breeze but the studs…shit a brick…previous owner/dealer/twat had rounded off the hex and loctited them in good and proper so had to resort to mole grips to get them off.
Once off…super long screwdriver still won’t engage on the screw due to slight angle!

Question - how does one get that bastard screw out??

  8. 7D7CE86C-8B03-42C6-AB6E-6853715BBA3F.jpeg looks like head not chewed yet R, surprised you can't shift that looking at it, probably don't need to ask but would be double-checking on myself:- does screwdriver tip "fit like a glove"? I think I would be tempted to protect the red frame paintwork, and have a few, light to medium tapitty taps on the end of the screwdriver for starters unless it really is that misaligned.. might be worse than it looks in picture. When you say that you can’t get it on squarely enough, is it because the body of the screwdriver is still fouling on the frame or is it a fuck off big long one like this?

  10. Screwdriver tip engages but won't turn the screw as it's not in line with screw and I don't want to mash the recesses in the screw.

  11. understood, you saw my added note? Best see what others suggest or new thread even.

  12. Didn’t Ducati design the new Mutley V4 to be more capable off road? :joy:

  14. It’s a fuck off big long one like that. No fouling of screwdriver handle on frame.

  15. in lieu of other suggestions.. if you find a screwdriver "bit" that is a really snug fit in screwhead, and you have a nice "stiff" 1/4 drive extension, or even one of those bendy spiral wound attachments, you could try it out to see if you can act on the screw without slipping. (after a few taps LOL)

  16. At the risk of being pedantic, that's Inch, not Dingle, and yes, a note to all you can ride/drive on the beach there, best to keep out of the soft sand though (and hose your bike down afterwards).

Looks like the weather's holding for you too :upyeah:, but, hey, it hardly ever rains here in the SW in the summer months:upyeah:.

Ride safe and enjoy the rest of the trip.

  17. Been to Ducati Manchester and ordered a new scrambler:)

Plan is to collect next Wednesday after they’ve transferred the Termi full system and seat from the current bike to the new bike :)
