  1. this is excellent... keep it up and keep us posted. how did you set the belts up and tension?

  2. Thanks! I'll be uploading pics as soon as it all goes back together :D

  3. Finally got the rear shock back from MH Racing and put the bike back together. Had a few issues with popping and banging from the exhaust but that's probably just the fuel reacting with the overspray inside the tank

Took it out for a ride and once warmed up she rode like a dream! Next job is painting clutch and water pump covers, and sorting out the rash on the frame. Going to get a suspension set up by Mint Customs too - guy there used to work for Ducati race teams for 11 years apparently!

Forgot to mention - going up to a 39 tooth on the back makes a big difference too, it's probably still too long geared but so much better than before.

  5. Realised I never answered this! Used a combination of the 5mm Allen key fitment and the 45 degrees twist technique (seen on random YouTube vids) - seemed to work. The old ones were properly slack, and I think that was responsible for my mid range chugging - which has now gone away!

  6. That shock looks minty.

Mine is also getting a full service with a new spring as we speak, so if it looks half as good as yours, I'll be happy.

  7. turns out mine needed quite a bit of work doing to it! Labour was only £110 but the total bill incl. spring respray was £350.

It was a total horror show before though.

  8. Great work mate, looks beltin :upyeah:

  9. Fantastic resurrection !! You definitely brought this bike to its former glory, congratulations. The Tamburini lovers community owes you! :upyeah::)

Have you considered swapping the side stand for a longer/beefier 848/1098/1198 one? Plug and play, and a world of difference…

  10. Thanks!

I didn’t know such a thing existed - but yes! You’ll have noticed I’ve got the wood under the side stand as otherwise it leans at about 45 degrees :D

where’s the best place to find a 848/1098/1198 one?

  11. I did notice the wood block. ;)

eBay is your friend. :upyeah: With a little patience, you can find very decent used ones on there.

They come pretty pricey new from Ducati…

These guys are a bit different indeed.

Also, and that is not specific to 748/916/996/998 or 848/1098/1198 set ups, note the nut shape that is very specific to allow full extension of the stand. A standard nut will interfere with the stand mechanism (S-shaped spring holding bracket) and the stand will never be able to lock in fully extended position. Which calls for disaster…

    GOOD

  17. Just had a look - that sounds like a nightmare! Taking the bike to Simon at Mint Customs next weekend so I’ll ask him about it and if it’s still popping and banging see what he can do about it!
