I believe they are. But I wouldn’t worry. If you study the numbers your odds against disaster are still pretty good. Thrash away
Fitted a 1299 water pump at the same time which has an extra locating dowel. Engine is a lot noisier with steel gears
So--I did a cursory search on Ebay, and all I'm seeing are water pumps listed for both 899/1199/1299. Not sure if the pump assembly includes the driven metal gear as well. So, wondering if/how all models can share an identical water pump, especially if the 1299 has an extra locating dowel. Wouldn't that require a locating hole somewhere in the engine case? I'm new to this discussion (so ignorant on details) but VERY interested in this topic. If somebody has part numbers, I'd love to see them. I'm in the US but that shouldn't matter. At some point in the near future I'n going to strip the bike of all the fairings (nose included) to install my 70mm race Termi headers. That would be a good time to drain coolant and do the water pump switch out. I've got some Ducati ThreeBond already (isn't that what it's called?) if needed for the install. I appreciate all my British friends helping out---great info on here--possibly better than what I'm getting on US-based forums. Greg Austin TX USA
Yes--but I'm always keen to make improvements whenever feasible and somewhat affordable. If I can get the parts, I can do the install myself---would appreciate any additional part number info for an improved water pump/gear retrofit. Thank you, Greg
So today I finally had the time to head south to DRR117’s place and pick up the new engine. Can’t thank him enough for holding on to it for me for a few month after promising 2 or 3 times to come for it but the was unable to because of work commitments but he’s been a pleasure to deal with and is a credit to the forum not had a chance to strip the old engine yet but I will at some point anyway , it’s on the bench and the rebuild has commenced, should be finished in the next few days ready to be stored for winter Hopefully get some more done tomorrow
Great to meet you pal. And I can’t believe how quickly you got home and started getting it back together also… I wish my work kept sending me overseas hopefully get out on track next season, maybe an endurance race or 2 keep in touch.
We have something that now resembles a bike . That’s as far as I’ll be going today though as I want to clean the radiators and I need a sump plug before I can put the oil in it . Still need to tidy up the wiring and re torque everything but so far it’s looking good
So the bikes is back together and running sweet as a nut, just need to order an Oberon master cylinder then that’s it all done . my curiosity got the better of me tonight so decided to remove the vertical cylinder head from my old engine and as suspected it’s suffered from a snapped conrod. Well and truly obliterated, it’s punched 2 big holes in the crank case, wiped the oil pump out damaged the liner and piston. on the plus side though the cylinder heads are good and the gear box is good so I can salvage a few bits from it.
Thanks mate . It was built within a day really I was just he’d up by waiting on a few bits to be delivered
