At the end of the day with an O/X ring chain, any oil applied is only lubing the rollers. My experience was the scott oiler just stopped the chain going rusty. They still developed stiff links and sprockets hooked. I spray my chains the same as you glid and the might not look so shiny (I don't clean them very often), but they last the same.
I've just changed mine close to 12k, it was stretching every trip and chose the Afam kit. Dont know the full history as i am second owner. Interesting about talk of the ST 1050. That was my previous bike it was still on the original chain +25K but with a scotoiler fitted so i'd say oilers definately extend chain life. I fitted a Tutoro oiler with the new chain on the multi. Of course it could all be down to horse power and how the engine delivers it.
11k and I think I've had to adjust the chain 3 times. I was expecting to have needed a new chain and sprockets at the service yesterday, but nothing mentioned. Will find out tomorrow when I collect it, no doubt. The Speed Triple is much easier on chains though - don't think I had to touch mine once in the year I had it.
I can't believe how many former ST riders have migrated to the MTS. Perhapd we should have our own special section!
My migration was somewhat forced by an elbow injury, otherwise I'd probably still have it now. Couldn't support myself properly so right side would start to dip, taking the throttle with it...which can be exciting when it happens at the wrong moment. This was mine:
I loved my ST kept it for over 4 years used to make my smile every time i rode it. But I'm getting on a bit (60) and after about 70 miles my knees would be complaining and my neck would ache from having to tip my head back. I've always fancied a proper sports bike but totally impractable due to age, 2 up riding etc but a multi is a sports bike with comfort so i spent the kids inheritance on my sixtieth birthday.
4k, mostly two up touring on the continent and no adjustment required yet. Not wanting to offend, but has the chain been over adjusted? Normal chain tension on the Multi looks quite slack compared to other bikes I've had. Kevin
