Ok, so I managed to get a un-used de cat pipe from eBay at a price that was worth the risk. Chinese made but totally unbranded and the welding was actually quite neat, I was expecting it to look much worse. Fitting took about an hour of swearing and WD40 and getting the front header to separate but the fit was actually pretty spot on in the end. there's a mount for a center stand if I ever need to fit one. Refitted the original end can after getting the heat shield powder coated gloss black to freshen it up and the sound is mega, not too loud but deep and rich like a Ducati should be. Been running it now for about 6 weeks and without any further mods the bike runs fine, still lumpy at times and with some pops on the over-run but I quite like that...
I will get some pictures up this week. The whole look is very clean and un-molested but the sound is far from discreet! I like it and the cost was comically low compared to full systems etc
Great, thanks. I'm thinking of going the same route as you, except with a Leo Vince decat as it has a small silencer in it which should reduce the volume a little. I am interested in seeing the powder coated original tail pipes though. Thanks.
It doesn't is the short answer, You need to construct some sort of spring arrangement (like I tried) or purchase a exhaust valve override thingy off ebay for about £80... I did the latter
Fueling is ok, no worse at low rpm than it was originally, actually feels slightly better through the mid-range with less of the hesitancy as you open the throttle... Pops and bangs on the overrun but I quite like that so I'm not going the bother with the remap. A remap would probably make better use of the free flowing pipe but I'm not too worried about gaining 2-3hp, there's plenty of power already, unless you found it too tricky at low speed or the popping annoyed you could live without it.
One compression spring and a cable clamp is all you need. 2mm 3mm 4mm 5mm Simplex Wire Rope Grip.Cable Clamp 316 A4 Marine Stainless | eBay 2mm New Compression spring springs, various sizes, you choose size and length | eBay 44x15 Thread cable through spring, and clamp. Secure in place and relax in the knowledge you've spent a pittance. These are what I used before having a map done.
Something I am also looking into doing, just a little bit concerned that it will be too loud for Long distance touring ? Anyway here is a guide on how to do it off another forum : http://www.ducati.ms/forums/216-201...d/123267-diy-mid-pipe-install-w-pictures.html There is also a video of this on YouTube
Put on a Leo vince carbon end can and decat pipe has better grunt and midrange is awesome no need to remap and it sounds great put baffle back in
If I am looking for used Ducati and it has aftermarket cans on which aren't Termi's I just go to the next ad. Most buyers like originality.
I'm thinking about selling my mivv decat and baffle, took it out as even baffled was way too loud for me. Without the baffle its plain offensive IMHO
All my bikes Ive sold I have put the original can back on. Generally speaking the systems are worth more off the bike then on it.
Looking at some of the videos on youtube, one shows the decat pipe and std end @116db, compared to around 90db std, and i think the termi was 109db !
Some lads discussing similar in this section http://ducatiforum.co.uk/f16/mivv-exhaust-14342/
