No worries mate. Ohlins seemed to have learned their lesson and have upped the bolt diameter to M8. And these even have 19Nm stamped on the fork bottoms.
FWIW, after a small number of reports of cracked Öhlins fork bottoms on pre Panigale Ducatis, general advice and feedback recommended 12Nm max. You know what you are doing Ian but 19Nm sounds a tad excessive. Andy
I remember all the horror stories about cracked öhlins fork bottoms on the older bikes but they were a lot less meaty and used M6, I think…
I've mostly assembled a fork leg with a new seal but method of retrieving central threaded rod for re-assembly is always a pain without a tapped (M10 x 1.0) extension tube, and i've never bothered to make one. I daren't even start on this one!
Nothing that technical for him, just the pinch bolts on the front wheel. Snapped one bolt he’s going to wait until his front tyre needs replacing before fixing. Reckons the bolts are Titanium as he blunted his drill trying to extract it….
twice have had seized pinch bolts on two separate monsters over the years, and had to resort to welding an extension on both times.
The right size brand new cobalt drill is your friend here sir, the superlight had one rounded off so i just drilled the head off and Bob's your uncle.
Working on my lads SX50/70, take out carb, clean carb and reset needle. Kick over a few times to prime the carb and bingo fired up set the idle screw and ticks over perfectly. A much improved situation from day of purchase where it just revved it’s tits off, had to tell the lad it might be best to turn it off before it blew itself apart…….
nope, no offence, but more than happy with my route, much quicker in the long run. thread was corroded, so just taking the head off the bolt only compounded the problem. I would stick to gardening Peter.
It worked for me as only a five minute job, as for the gardening i did a little today with those pesky fallen leaves.
Bought this bike brand new April 1990, sold 55.000 km later early 1994, brought her home last week wit 110k km after 29! years, in great condition. Feels special. I knew because the plates stay with the bike, not the person.
I'll clean her up and put her in my living room next to the 996, after all, she is 33 years old in couple of months, and in original condition, no farkles,, nothing.
