Cagiva Elefant 750 1987

Discussion in 'Other Bikes' started by FAT MATT, Oct 20, 2012.

  1. that looks a cracker Nick - the black wheels and frame work well with the std paintwork. Am i right in thinking front disc ripe for replacement? - they do work hard for a living on the front of a 750 but I have never found mine inadequate for road use.

We will have to plan to meet at Mickey's next time as I will have mine Taxed by then

  2. The frame looks good at a distance, it's hand painted! The disc is still fine, but needs new pads due to fork oil contamination. A meet at Mickeys sounds good!

  3. I am jealous of that. You've a bargain there. Especially with such a straight forward repair.

There's a pretty useful Facebook page. Same crowd as the EAV forum but easier to use & pictures.

My rebuild is still on going but alot slower than I like. I need a small windfall to do everything I'd like to.

  4. This is where I'm up to:

  6. Any progress is good Matt! Yes I'm happy with the deal, it's got panniers, top box, front crash bars, Garmin gps, a complete spare set of bodywork inc tank, a complete spare exhaust, and a few other odds and sods. I reckon I could sell the spares and have a cheap Elefant! The bodywork needs some minor repairs and paint, but I got a spare set of Lucky decals with it so I might paint up a spare set for the bike over the winter.

  7. Who do you guys use for spares? I need a swingarm top chain slider, mine is missing.

  8. you've hit on a sore point immediately Nick.. there is someone on aforementioned site who gets them done in batches but not cheap and can't comment on quality. It might be easier to look for something similar and adapt it (as I know others have already done) - Monster/SS similar set-up but yet to do it myself it's true.

Wemoto are quite good for a lot of service bits - good job you got all those spares with it - the headlamp is a great spare to have - tank also as both on/off taps can develop leaks if inserts get damaged - keep this in a damp-free environment as can bloat otherwise.

  9. unbelievably there are 5 Elefants on E-Bay right now..

  10. Oh I wish I had a couple of grand free.

  11. a customer of mine has one, infact i am working on his punto right now.does all his own bike work and is more than happy to share info will ask him where he gets his parts from when he picks his car up the morra.

  12. fella just pickd up his car and had lenthy chat about all things elifant, he has baught all manner of parts for it and no problem sourcing, mostly ebay.

  13. So today I replaced the fork seals and greased the head bearings. Fired it up and it was back on one pot only. As the fairing was still off it gave good access to the electrics. A wobble of the wiring around the cdi units has the rear cylinder cutting back in. A closer look revealed one of the pick up feed wires not seated into the connector properly! So out it fell, literally and after a small bend of the retaining tag it clicked nicely back into place. Back on both cylinders and no end of tugging wiring will stop it, nice ;-)

  14. Some bits for 900 are nigh on impossible to find now, the rarer front end bits turn up on there occasionally particularly 750 and it's worth snapping bits up when you see them if you are planning on keeping. E-Bay Germany has a lot more parts than over here generally.

  15. E-bay :- 2 ended with reserve not reach but 2 new 750's added - that's 7 in the last two weeks !

  16. They're a bit pricey? I paid a little over a grand for mine with luggage, satnav, and a load of spares! A bit more work and it'll be back on the road. So far I've had to buy spark plugs, fork seals and oil, new front brake pads, a new front inner tube, and some fresh fuel. My time is free so I'm happy at the moment ;-)

  20. Can't quite see the attraction, they look a big and clumsy, my £1000 would go into a Suzuki DR 650
