V4 Diary Of A Trackbike Build

  1. With the Panigale V4 electronics, if Bikesportsdevelopments Mick Boesman has looked into and concluded you can't by pass the ABS unit because its linked in with so much of the electronics and would have a detrimental effect on other areas of performance im inclined to accept that. you shouldn't even change the callipers for different piston size as that can fool the ABS too.
Doesn't mean to say you can't physically remove it and the bike will run, its just not running correctly.
In front only ABS configuration id say the std ABS, and cornering ABS is superb and if a Ducati test ride can circulate Valencia within a few seconds of a GP bike then even taking into account his talent, there can't be much wrong with a std set up.

now this is all very well but.....EBC discs,.... and worse, red brake pipes.....ffs:rolleyes:;)

  2. During the war...

  3. I'd be inclined to accept his opinion also! it makes sense, it was going to happen eventually wasn't it...

  4. there is a rumour that jet prime are developing a bypass gizmo for the v4 abs......but who knows?

  5. I imagine the problem will be Euro 5 bikes, the main difference (so I was told by a respected Ducati Dealer) with Euro 5 was the significant increase in telematics power within the ECU, and the amount it's flagging/logging about what's going on with the bike. This will certainly be the challenge for anyone wanting to code them.

  6. Exactly. The brakes on my V4S are shit hot. If it ain’t broke….

  7. I used 320mm Brembo HPK front discs with stock Stylema calipers and Brembo SR pads on my Panigale V4 track bike. Following an interesting, face to face chat with the importer of SBS pads, I’ll be trying their range when the current set on the Multistrada needs replacing. Andy

  8. Plus one for SBS pads. I changed out from Brembo pads to them for the past two years.

  9. Which ones, I used the dual carbon for a couple of years, then switched to ebc gpfax, which I find better and last longer. I know sbs do an expensive set, can't remember what there called, and are supposed to be as good as brembo z04

  10. I just use the Race Sintered. Stop me just fine. I think unless you are at race pace they work perfectly well and last much longer than Brembo SC’s (or whatever they are called now).

  11. These SBS 634DC RacingDual Carbon?

  12. No. I just use SBS RS. Race Sintered. One pad below Dual Carbon in the hierarchy.
People will frown on me because they are cheap. But I’m fine with that. They work.

  13. I'm reliably informed Brembo don't make the Z04 in house, they buy it in. Andy

  14. blanked it off and bypassed with the direct lines. Not sure what those in the know actually know but, I tried it and it causes no issues at all… and stops the ABS kicking in under heavy breaking.

if we don’t experiment we don’t learn :)

Tommy Bridewells practice V4 has the ABS plugged and bypassed, I’d class the fine folk at MotoRapido as those in the know. If it works for Tommy I’m sure it’ll be ok for me :upyeah:

and no one needs to understand the logic behind any of my bike… it’s my bike

  15. Yeah, used them before and as Tom at motorcycleraceparts explained the difference in cost between the EBC and the Brembo HPK doesn’t equate to the same percentage increase in performance.

So, I went with the EBC, basically on Tom Tunstall’s recommendation :upyeah:

  16. because I wanted to. Simple as that really.

  17. My first experience of bypassing the ABS was a result of the front line catching on the front tyre at donington, fortunately split in pit lane so, I removed the rear caliper and used the rear abs line to fix the front brakes bypassing the pump.

zero issues and got a session at the end of the day good old Matt Antony to get some pictures :punch:

only got into the high 39’s tho, I couldn’t keep up with @Pablo Pirate

  18. Can’t wait to see everyone’s thoughts on my tail fairing with MotoGP inspired 3D printed “stegosaurus” fins on it :joy::joy:

  19. Mate, its your dummy you can spit it as far as you like...I do! I prefer the Na na nana na na na defence though:joy::upyeah:

I know when jhp looked at doing the master direct to the callipers, they ended up putting a T piece in to maintain the pressure to the ABS unit..

The pipe under the mudguard route is attrocious I grant you, but it catching the tyre will be down to fitment into the rubber grommet. I agree the two pipes around the front of the forks is a much better route (gp style) ...

im on the edge of my seat waiting for the the stegosaurus fins, you could be on to something!:punch::sob:

  20. No dummies spat here andy, it’s the internet, everyone thinks their opinion is important, some people are just more prone to shoving their opinions down peoples throats than others.

Ultimately I decided to mod my bike and pop a thread on in case anything helped someone out. Anyone can jump in and say you shouldn’t do this and I don’t like that, but at the end of the day, it’s my bike and my build.

As for things shouldn’t be changed, well yeah, that’s obvious… Ducati spend millions producing what they see as the best product they can, so why would we then go and change anything?? Because the world would be an even more tiresome place if we all had exactly the same stock bike.

You are right about one thing, the previous owner hadn’t fixed the brake line over the mudguard correctly which had caused it to fail as it had rubbed clean through the line
