What's the overall thickness of the 'pack'? I find that going slightly under the recommended (38.5mm IIRC?) helps with drag, especially if you have larger slave cylinder for reduced pull. On the other hand, as it wears it'll get better until, of course it gets too thin...
Original (with slippage) 37.33 mm Total replacement (unable to select neutral) 38.82mm "Hybrid" - some old, some new (no issues) 38.46 mm Gap between last plate and drum - 4.2mm
Some years back, I was using the 'racing' clutch pack on my 916 - has thinner (and one extra) sintered friction plates and I removed 2 springs as an experiment in reducing clutch pull. It worked fine, no slippage and a clutch so light a small child could pull it. I've since swapped to alloy clutch basket & plates and have manned up enough to refit all 6 springs but, with selective use of 1.5mm plain plates (standard are 2mm) plus, fitting just the one plain plate in the bottom of the pack can still squeeze an extra friction plate in there.
