Fantastic... although it's a generation later than my old bevel I'm sure you'll get that same visceral feeling when riding it. It may not be mega fast but it's gonna involve all your senses and be a completely difference experience from the V4 SP2 - but no less enjoyable.
yup. in similar vein i have the sport classic for short blasts (50 miles max for me) but also have the V4PP for more 'serious' stuff
I think reverse shift is done by removing the gear shift lever and fitting a new one directly to the gearbox, so you are turning a lever directly attached to the gearbox rather than through a link.
I was looking on their website and I believe they are supposed to be designated ‘TT’ (for tubed tyres rather than TL for tubeless). All the recommended tyres for this bike on the Pirelli website say TL… The Roso IV Corsa would probably be a good tyre for spirited road use. Metzeler Racetec and Sportec have been mentioned by others.
If your on standard wheels then you need tubed tyres , there are kits that seal the spokes that penetrate the rim but I'm not sure if this allows the use of tubeless tyres. Kineo build spoked wheels that allow tubeless tyres but at a high price. Beautiful bike by the way, enjoy yourself.
Thanks, I can’t wait to get it. Alpina are decent value. The tires people seem to be using are not listed as tires for tubes, but the tyre manufacturer’s websites recommend those tires when you select this bike.
As I understand it you can put tubes in tubeless tyres but it can be an absolute bugger to do due to the much stiffer side walls. They had this issue on the Darmah front wheel with a Conti Road Attack 3.
I bought a nipple sealing kit from Japan for these rims. Allows tubeless tires to be fitted. (Or the Heath Robinson method is DIY sealant on each nipple on the backside of the rim.) Kit here: ebay listing (you will need to search for your specific size rims)
Nice. There's not that much difference in price compared to the Alpina. If these are lighter than the Alpina at around 11.5kg for the pair then they are still quite heavy by modern standards! What do the original wheels weigh? I guess if you want light wheels then you have to go for something other than spokes.
Not sure what originals weigh - and can't be arsed to find mine to weigh them Think you're right about spokes though they look the tits and suit the bike perfectly. And TBH, saving every last gram isn't top of my wish list for that bike. On t'other hand, the carbon rims i have on my V4PP weigh half of that
Those are exactly what I have on the old Darmah which fitted to it when I bought it in the early 80s. Stainless too. Nice... Real contis, if you can find them, go for ludicrous amounts.
