Is This An M O T Failure ?

  1. That's the thing with mots even though its in the manual everyone tests different

  2. MOT's are easy 90% opinion. and why i wont do pre mots. even with 20+ years experience as a tester. go one way and the tester goes the other, it either makes you look incompetent at best, or worse. corrupt.

  3. Ignition lock isn't an MoT tested item but yoke/bar impact onto tank is. To get an MoT, why not simply adjust the left and right adjustable lock stops to a position that gives a gnats cock of clearance with no clash, get an MoT pass, then adjust them back ?

  5. Yes mate, I saw that but was rather just advising to adjust the already fitted lock stops that are already there rather than fit longer bolts. I guess it all adds up to the same result so either way would achieve the goal .

  6. If the bars or something are currently being stopped from moving any further by the tank, adjusting the lockstops to give a hairs width of a gap will give you more confidence in getting an MOT, and of course stop your tank getting damaged, but then backing the adjusters back off afterwards is going to gain you what? a hairs width more movement because the tank is still stopping the movement.
But your tank will still get damaged.

  7. I agree ...... getting an MoT can be a highly technical affair .

In particular , the type of biscuits that you take with you can be crucial .
The preferred standards are chocolate Hob-Nobs , or Digestives , or possibly Maryland Cookies .
Jaffa Cakes look good in theory , but are not the best choice , because there aren't that many in the packet
to share around with workmates .

    Disclaimer
I only suggest that biscuits be given as " a gesture of friendship and goodwill " ,
and that they are in no way intended as any form of bribery ( Your Honour ) .... :p

    PS - A word about cake .

This substance can have almost miraculous powers when applied in the right place
but that is usually in a mostly female work environment ..... eg. local health centre , tax office etc.
I don't really recommend it for garages and workshops though ......
...... it can send out messages that may not have been intended ..... :)

  8. There’s a few ways to get round this but my concern was the steering lock not working and an MOT failure. I put a rubber rivnut over the thread and this worked well although the Titanic probably had a better turning circle !

  9. What ? !

Which part of "chocolate Hob-Nobs" is difficult to understand ?

Here's a step-by-step guide for when you roll up for your MoT -

1] smile nicely and make a joke about putting the kettle on
    2] hand over the Hob-Nobs
3] do not say a single word about the skenning steering lock

.... just kidding around with you here of course ..... :)

But many a true word is spoken in jest .

  10. My MOT Man says Thank you for coming to every customer and he provides the tea and biscuits!
It works as I'm coming back time and again.

  14. That still catches me every time…..

  15. I know tank swell can be an issue with the sport classic range, if tge bike is off road during winter I think with fuel removed the tank can be placed in a warm dry spot and it can return to shape ish. Read up on this though.

  16. I have larger carbon intake tubes on my 916 and, initially it would trap your thumbs on full lock, never had an issue either with MOT (don't think I've ever seen an MOT tester test full lock?) or riding.

I fitted adjustable bar risers with longer bars that solve the problem anyway and the longer bars are a revelation.
