  1. i used to have modified 916 fairings on my 998 as well.
the vents were cut out and the holes filled with fiberglass.

    henk!!!

  2. Thanks henk thats what i was hoping to hear i think ill give it a go, sort of stuck im waiting for the support bracket to turn up for the nose fairing, so will get on with some other jobs till it turns up, ive had a look and im sure its just a case of removing some material from the scoops to clear

  3. Those AP Racing calipers look awesome!! :upyeah:

  4. The subframe looks like one for a P8 ecu from a 9*6SPS or Strada. Not sure how this would interface with 998 ecu.

  5. the 998 ecu is down the side near the battery......

  6. I was looking at that carbon support and i dont think i want to spend the money on it, i know theres lots of nice bits going on the bike but that was when I had money, i can see little bits and pieces adding up allready but ill have to have a look at other threads but the bracket seems way over the top, don't know why it would need the three rubber mounted points, im thinking of coming up with a single top hat bracket to take a dutz fastener just to pin the seat unit down where the original lock was, ill see if i can get a picture of the wheels tommorow, think there a bit special

  7. See what Cranker has to split...its all functional track stuff, no gold anodised for the sake of it bling ;-)

  8. I did that for my son's race 748 and it's an easy enough job, I used a lathe to make up spacers that mount to the original seat lock holes and then put a bridging piece across and machined the centre section to take a Dzus retainer

  9. Single mount equals the seat rocking from side to side..............100 euros......

  10. ^^^ It does depend on how you set the seat up and what seat you use, my effort worked fine. I now use a custom made subframe but it still has the centre single dzus fastening and it doesn't rock either.

  11. I'm going to have a look at coming up with my own bracket for the single seat, need to get some dzus fasteners, im not sure whether to use one clip or two, i suppose in true racing spirit i should do it with as little as possible

I'm a list person so here goes things to do

Complete fitting of single seat (Need the carbon undertray, I spoke to supplier they do one to suit the monoposter )

Alarm Removal (its off but so is bike, wiring needs sorting to bypass)

Keyswitch ignition its got to go far to heavy (Could do with old one so i can nick the plug and save me butchering existing loom)

Change fuel cap for one without a lock so dont need keys anymore (Yet to order)

Adaption of Carbon fiber fairing to suit 998 and fitting (Waiting on fairing bracket, i could have made one but for the cost i thought not worth my time and effort, its coming from Germany)

Look at refitting steering stem on harris / ohlins yoke and fit tapper roller bearings and change yokes & forks to ohlins items

Change the wheels and tires (waiting for some supercorser bsb scrubs)

Removal of lights and clocks, put back minimum of instrumentation

Make a case saver bracket for front sprocket

Change footrest for racing rearsets (yet to order, i always like Harris rearsets but think i will look what turns up)

Think the bike really needs a slipper clutch (yet to order / decide on what to fit)

Change Airtubes to carbon items just for more weight saving and carbon:smile: (been offered these on forum)

Fit the AP Brakes and master cylinder (need pads and i'd like new braided hoses when i do this also need to sort a reservoir and mount)

Think that's it, looks like most these things get slowed down by lack of parts so going to try and put some time by and order as much as possible that i know im going to need, i don't like having lots of jobs half done starts to look like a mission when just things to do and nothing coming off list

All seems pretty straight forward but i know it will all have its problems only thing i really not happy with this conversion is butchering the existing loom, got a feeling its quiet an expensive item, so other than the alarm removal it will stay standard until i can find another to butcher:eek:

Any help, advice or assistance thankfully received so far and for in the future

  12. Mad Duc do a aircraft style switch to replace the Ignition, I have one and they are not cheap but they do have very heavy duty wiring and it's a quality product, they also do a keyless seat lock catch, which you could consider as an alternative, I have one of those also on my road\track bike and again very high quality and nicely anodised but again not cheap but discounted now to $56. Here's the link Corsa Velocita L.L.C. | Madduc.com - SEAT LOCK BUTTON

and for the toggle switch $85 now apparently Corsa Velocita L.L.C. | Madduc.com - Ignition toggle switch

I thought a slipper clutch was a must but had to use my track bike without one last time out and I am now not sure I need one for the way I ride, if it was me I would put that towards the back of the list. I do have one on my 998 though and it's a Sigma job, used a lot by Supersport riders, see Sigma and Twitter for their comments.

  14. ^^^ I was lucky I got both mine off eBay! a lot cheaper but I have never seen either item come up since.

  15. Yeah thanks guys, the ebay £2.30 switch has my vote and order

  16. Its the loom im undecided about, do i just go and hack it up, or look for a cheap one out there, probably a mile of redundant wiring to come out

  17. Who do you get pads from, not got anything with mine they was a ebay purchase years ago, prob before radial had come out

Not seen to many people with crash bungs on ducatis, why is this, is it cause there two expensive to crash lol

A guy i know has just bought a 998s engine for his track bike, i think if i ever get to stage where need more power or an engine will look at the 1098 or 1198 models, yeah lots of work but its been done before so those poor souls have worked out all the problems

Or how much tuning can be done to my 998 to get it near s model power

Right im off to bypass the alarm ill be back later with more updates

  18. Well just having a break from the alarm all looks pretty easy so far mos of it is plug in, seems like only one wire on coil been cut into

I have found something strange a little diode across the two coil wires, ive got a feeling this is from the factory like this but not sure

Im thinking all should be ok if left in probablysomething to do with when coil de energises my guess

  19. I fabricated a bracket using 2024-T42 aluminium alloy and fitted two Dzus fastener receptacles to it.
I will post a pic later if you want.
