V4 And So It Begins

  1. Problem for me, the algorithms seem to have been created using data from a (very) small cross section of ride dynamics. In the real world, do you really need the suspension to adjust second by second ? Not everyone wants to ride like a loon (all the time :D), not everyone has access to track smooth tarmac, not everyone is looking for or appreciates rock hard suspension and not everyone fits the Italian idea of an average size man :joy: My Panigale V4S electronics gave the rider a lot more control over compression and rebound and I’m not sure why Ducati didn’t just use the same technology, especially on the RS which has the same suspension as the Pikes Peak. Shock horror, the Pikes Peak isn’t a perfect bike but it’ll do  Andy

  2. I want to say it’s actually 10,000/sec but not sure if it’s 10,000/min. I think per second

  3. I believe the assumed rider weight is 75kg hence some of us have to increase the pre-load more than the default, eg., I weigh about 110-115kg in all my gear and find the 2 rider setting is better, for me, than the single rider setting. Or, I just leave it in Auto and let the computer work out what preload is optimal based upon the weight on the bike. However, iirc there’s no Auto setting on the Ohlins equipped PP (or RS).

But…I just remembered, you can adjust your compression & rebound, albeit not independently and albeit you’re telling the computer ‘when you do your stuff do it firmer or softer’. If you go into settings, select the mode, select suspension (choice of front and rear) then there’s a sliding scale option to adjust it between comfort and performance.

  4. Having just read the ‘blurb’, the event based suspension technology only applies to Race Mode. I’m going to have a play now. Andy

  5. Disappointed, the settings are not the same as my 2018 Panigale V4S :( Andy

  6. I found my PP v4 with the ohlins limited .
Sky hook way better for real hard road riding . The Ohlins as good as they are were lacking .Back on the Grand Tour and it’s fantastic, compliant and fast , the PP would have been good on track as you can dial it in for the track , adjust as you find the weak spot but again , it’s a circuit and adjustment is the key in that scenario.

  7. The V4 Pikes Peak Öhlins forks compression and rebound are only adjustable between ‘Hardest’, ‘Hard’, ‘Medium’, ‘Soft’ and ‘Softest’ settings, there are no individual values like the Panigale V4S. Andy

  8. Yes , like I said the PP is limited . The V4s is a better real world bike. I was glad Ducati gave me a refund .
Don’t forget Race settings , or we could call them Jack Jammer setting .

  9. Unless I’ve missed your point (a very real possibility) those are the Race settings in my post. Sophisticated it ain’t. Andy

  10. I probably weigh about 75kg in all my gear, and haven’t noticed any issues with the suspension. I’ve not really messed about with it much, it seems to do what I need it to. I’d say it’s one of the most comfortable bikes I’ve had.

  11. Agreed. I've got mine set so the suspension gets progressively firmer the higher up the modes I go. If the road is smooth stick it in sport. If the road is rough put it in tour, or urban. It just works. It completely ignores any imperfections in the road and just goes where you point it. By far the best system I've ridden.

  12. I've got a Rally, not PP or RS or GT. I can see from the tyre wear, the rebound is too slow. I ride on auto preload, and touring pretty much all the time. UK roads too broken for a sport mode if you ask me. Now not having the option to tweak rebound alone, what would you all suggest then?

  13. I just leave mine in Sport the whole time. I don’t even bother changing when it’s raining, just hold back on the silliness.

  14. May have crosse wires , had the first V4s , fully loaded , got all excited with the up and coming PPV4s , ordered again one of the first which turned out to a bad bike . Got a replacement V4s then was happy again as the Sky hook works so well . The ohlins on the PP are off the shelf units , nothing special and as a result make the bike more awkward on hard roads and make you realise the suspension on the standard V4 s is better . I got pulled in to the looks , the single sided swing arm , the fat tyres , but in reality the V4 s is a better bike and that has been quoted many times as it’s a bike focused yo the sports bike lovers , non technical roads and long straights and good surface . I’m sure this will upset a few but I had to swallow the loss on 2 bikes to get the sweet spot again .Sorry

  15. Having looked at some of LCR’s Youtube videos, it seems like he came to the same conclusion.

  16. No need to apologise. I took a V4S out several times and just didn’t bond with it.

It would be a boring world if we all liked the same things.

  17. I’m genuinely interested to see a photo of the wear if you have one so I can learn from it please. However, you’re correct there is no separate compression and rebound adjustment, as Andy says above it’s Hardest to Softest and that’s for the both of them.

I rode a PP a few weeks back, default suspension settings, it’s a new bike to the owner and he hadn’t played around with the settings at all, I was shocked at how hard and jarring the suspension was, regardless of mode selected. Fine, push on at 120kmh and above and it begins to fall into place but below that at normal A & B road speeds with traffic and the usual poor road surface and it was awful. I mentioned it to the owner and he told me he felt the same, his 20+ year old FJR1300 was more comfortable he said, however he didn’t know what to expect, this bring his first Ducati, so just accepted it . We’re gonna try and work on the suspension settings for him some time soon.

  18. I must confess that once i had set my suspension to how i wanted on my V4S, i didn't ever feel the need to change it.

The beauty of electronic suspension is it can react to hard braking and accelerating instantly but other than that my new Desert X is just as comfortable.

  19. Here you go mate. You'll be able to spot sharper leading edge, and round-over trailing edge. Now before you say that's bugger all, this tyre has not done much distance. I'm on my second tyre in the rear due to a puncture. The old(ish) tyre had the same phenomena, just more pronounced.

  20. thumbnail_IMG_0450.jpg thumbnail_IMG_0449.jpg The Scorpions for some reason do deform , normally for me after 1000 miles , great tyres but for some reason the serrate the treads . Conti TA3 ....after 1000 miles and still good 1000 miles later you really cannot get a better tyre to run with the V4s . These were Spain but you can get almost the same in the UK , they just work and will last around 2 to 3 k . Sky hook V4s
