I am at this stage with my 851 reno, I think the swing arm has been stripped, I need to try and check (it looks dull). Now looking for someone to re anodise. If you diy it, check how long to leave the stripper on and I think all carbon steel parts need to be removed, there were some thread inserts in mine. To be honest for the small bit you have I would be tempted to polish it up and try and blend it in, but it's your choice. Cheers Gaz
I had a play with the scotchbrite and wet,dry and very pleased with how it came out, did bother lower side rails only and won’t be getting it coated should save me around £70,
good effort, looks nice, it may dull a little over time, perhaps a wipe of ACF50 or similar every now and again may help.
I did the same and applied several layers of high quality wax polish. This stuff. https://amzn.eu/d/d5fkINx
I had great results on my Aprilia RS250 frame using clear cerakote over the polished surface, it looks very similar to the original bright anodised finish
It's a great way of sealing whatever finish you decide to go with, unfortunately raw aluminium tarnishes fairly quickly and needs regular polishing to keep looking good
Powder coating all done. Had a cerakote finish on the yoke first time I've had an item done in that finish and will be interesting to see how it fares.
Bearings came today, next to order is cushdrive rubbers and as usual prices vary from place to place, Has anyone used these ones before. Cush Drive Rubber Rear Wheel Bush Set for Ducati Replaces 70010591A / 70010051A (For: Ducati)
Head bearings in and everything nipped up, Fitted steering stem top nut recesses facing down (correct way) ? Next job wheel bearings.
I can only think recess down to not put too much load on centre of bearing or recess up to even load when tightening up ? maybe to save weight
Apart from tyres wheels finished, All SKF bearings a genuine cush rubbers. Probably the cleanest the wheels will ever be
Roadtrip, In your first picture you may have just tie wrapped the cone washer to the carrier, but when you install it, it goes the other way - flat surface to swing arm. Looking good. Cheers Gaz
Hope your warm you just made me go down to the shed and change it right way round and its bloody cold Think i need new sprocket nuts
Roadtrip, I would do a bit of research on sprockets sizes for the SS. I never fitted the std, I went straight for a 40 and in hindsight would have have gone 42. Tootling around at lower speeds I still find I am riding the clutch a bit. Just saying be carefull fitting a 37 as I can't imagine it's great. Make sure you get a long enough chain if you go bigger, I think 96 links std (edit 98 links not 96) just does a 40T sprocket, I found the DID 520XV3 gold/black to be good value and comes in longer lengths. Cheers Gaz
