From my experience the insurance companies don’t make it clear, they ask full system or end can, cosmetic or power gain etc. I’ve said many times full system and they just move on to next question. If there is any grey area surely the simple answer would be ‘we don’t insure any bikes with an exhaust other than standard’ that would be clear. If your in two minds about the RS then from experience …… buy it, you’ll always regret not having one..
I've got a full system and can't remember if I disclosed this information to the insurance company or not. That said, I'm something of the rebel. Only this morning, right in front of MrsGC, I placed my coffee cup on the counter without a mat under it. This evening, I'm going to randomly throw plates into the dishwasher. Loud pipe? Ha! I laugh in your face.
Loud pipes are just boring and annoying for everyone except the rider (and even some of them get bored and grow up eventually).
I couldn't care less if my bike is loud or quiet, the only reason I go full system is to get smoother torque and power delivery, and get rid of the hideous carbuncle under the bike.
Would you care to share the source of such insurance? I am sure there are very many people on here who would be greatly appreciative
There is a thread on Pistonheads about race exhausts. 99% of the time , even in an accident claim, it will be fine but be involved in an accident where there is a fatality or life changing injury and the police will impound vehicles and they and the insurance company will go over it with a fine tooth comb to find a way to apportion blame and make a claim. As has happened to someone on there. Once you have had insurance voided it will be very hard to get any quote for a long time I would think and the insurance company will come after you to reclaim their losses.
Not on this thread, no. This is a thread about a potential new bike, there’s plenty of insurance related ones if that’s what you’re into.
Back on topic, what would be ideal would be to collect the bike with the standard system, run it in, then decide if it needs a full system at the first service. Will see how discussions go tomorrow when I pop over to my dealer. Unfortunately they don’t have an RS there for me to look at, but they have a new Pikes Peak, so it’ll be interesting to see the changes.
That’s what I did with the PP. The system turned the day before the service! FWIW, I think the full Akra is very non-offensive. It kicks out a nice tone but (IMHO) significantly quieter than the 1260. The standard pipe is very quiet.
Would you be willing to help other members, myself included, with their insurance of bikes fitted with racing exhausts on another thread, started specifically for that purpose?
Your answers are all over this forum, you just need to look for them. They’re even in this very thread.
I doubt anyone told their insurance its a racing exhaust My system has nothing written on it to say so. The full system technically isn’t even a full system. Besides Ducati fitted my system, long before things needed signing for. My insurance company are more then aware my bike is decatted I guess it depends on how risk averse you are. Mines a 1260 by the way.
Quick comment and sorry to take this off topic again, I've got a full system on my PP. I've looked everywhere on it and nowhere does it say not road legal. When I had it fitted last year I was told I'd need to sign some disclaimer, but it was never preseneted to me when I paid the dealer. Also as its been stated in this thread, the full system on the Multi V4 is not offensively loud in any way.
The dealer has agreed to this, so I've ordered the bike, and will see how I get on with it, before it goes in for the first service.
