  1. I saw a passat 1.8t the other day running
     
  2. well got some bits today to play with
    now have another coil to try to see if i can narrow down where the dam pixies are hiding
    so i can evict them and cure the miss firing
    oh and got a monster front mudguard to play with as the original doesnt look right since changing the fairing :upyeah:

  3. Keep me informed about the mudguard...... be interested in the findings.
    I have got a bellypan to fit to mine then need to order a fairing and single seat once payday arrives. This weekend will be spent trying to obtain a clutch and brakes again after we changed the lines over after the new yoke and risers were fitted.
     
  4. what belly pan have you got to fit yours
    did look at one think it was for a monster
    yep need to bleed the front brake on mine think i got some air in lines when altering my bar height
    and having to re-angle the banjo's

    what seat unit you thinking ?

    this is the type of mudguard i have for the bike although its in black at the moment

  5. I put a monster front guard on my naked SSie but I cut about 3" off the front to make it a bit neater. Main reason for using monster guard is for a bit more protection for engine and cooler from road crap.

    Streetfighter ... Any crap stopping is always welcome, any idea what year Mudguard I should be aiming at? front will deffo need a trim it does come over a long way. Standard SSie guard is so short at the back wont stop nothing.

    Seat Wise similar to the one you have, probably be one of these

  7. Any monster up to 2008ish, same as in pic above with Y shaped front stay. Pre radial brake models with the white or black plastic clips.

  8. belly pan is the same as the one one bike i found that gave me inspiration for mine
    never thought about trimming the mudguard ?
    still have to trial fit yet to see what it looks like :upyeah:

    are you planning to move your coils i have not looked to hard yet to where to move mine to yet
    just think they look wrong there was going to look where they are mounted on the monsters but have not done so yet
     
  13. are you going to use a dremel to tidy up the bottom of the nose fairing?
     
  14. No I am ditching that completely as I want to save all the original bodywork and replacing it with the same one that Johnboy has fitted so it should look a lot neater. I just fitted that piece to see if the new bars would clear the fairing without hitting the cylinders.

    May move the coils.... when I come to that bridge..lol, need to locate the ignition but was thinking of going keyless but its another 100 quid or so

  15. you want to leave it on our local council estate for ten minutes
    it will be keyless ignition in another ten for nothing
    though you might not see it again :eek:

    finaly had chance to get the old bike into a warm dry enviroment to have a look why its still miss firing
    well had a slack day at work lol
    also had chance to check the cambelts to see if they were still ok
    well upshot was the cambelts seemed a little slack so duly adjusted tension and no i didnt use a tensioning tool
    doing car cambelts for years so seemed ok (i hope lol)
    afterwards stumbled upon some well camoflaged wiring bodges i had missed
    found wires on the ignition switch were ..........well.....not really connected hah
    so stripped back and soldered up wires another bodge fixed :upyeah:

    so the ride home went well no missfire hey ahh hold on thats a new one
    so ten minutes in and no missfire but an odd psst noise occasionly coming from the air box area
    okay so is this a new noise or was it masked by the missfire
    bike was definetly running smoother than before so ........out of town see how it goes with a bit of right hand abuse :biggrin:
    so under higher revs noise turned to more a loud crackle (probably not the best noise descriptions )
    well not the bad missfire i had but still not running right bah.........
    and the next thought is possible valve clearances or a burnt out valve :frown:
    so going to compression test the engine and see what that shows

    so anyone got any thoughts on symptoms .....or would like to swap for a loaded shotgun :eek:
     
  17. Your symptoms seem a bit like what I had..........I appreciated mine is carbed and yours is IE, but maybe there is a pointer.....

    Having been running perfectly OK, mine suddenly started to spit back through the air box when just above idle and opening the throttle a bit more. It would also pop and bang through the zorst on the over-run.

    I checked the compressions....AOK; I checked all connections...AOK; I changed the coils, leads, plug caps and plugs....No change.

    I had the carbs off and cleaned them; I changed diapraghms; seals; changed float assemblies and checked the fuel levels......No change.

    I swapped the choke mechanism and jets etc over....No change

    I changed the manifold rubbers....No change

    I balanced the carbs again............Bit better; I tweaked the pilot screws again; bit more better.

    I checked all the ignition circuits again......AOK.

    I changed the plugs again...........Much better. (It does not like Champion plugs. NGKs much better).

    It will still occasionally spit through the airbox, but only when 'cold'; not when it has warmed up properly.

    maybe a point in the right direction did think about getting throttle bodies balanced and tickover checked
    just have to keep chipping away
    still the shotgun feels tempting :upyeah:

The occasional pop through the air box is actually very common, especially around 3000 rpm (so much so mcn reported it when testing them as new bikes) and stems from emissions and noise testing engine speeds. There are two cures - a power commander, and don't ride at 3000 rpm (it's a little low anyway, I find just under 4000 (probably around 3500) to be the minimum realistic speed for smooth acceleration.

    You may be wasting time trying to diagnose a fault that doesn't truly exist.
     
  20. cheers phil but this wasn't an occasional pop it was through the rev range as well
    at higher revs it sounded like a machine gun lol
    didnt notice it before but might have been masked by the missfire..........but didnt do it when bike ran ok before
    hmm fix one fault find another

    going to compression check engine when cold and hot as to me it seemed it could be blow back past valves
    did wonder if i disturbed something when tensioning the cambelts :frown:
    well intend to do valve clearances belts etc and a few other things
    but want to get to the bottom of the rough running and get it sorted before i spend (waste :biggrin: ) more money
