Fuel gauge problem is it just me?

  1. 2013 Handbook

    "Fuel level indicator

This function displays the fuel level. The low fuel light turns on when the level goes down to 2 marks and there are still 4 litres in the tank; if the level goes down further, the last mark will be displayed flashing."

7 litres seems a little excessive when the book states 4 litres.

Maybe 2014 is different or it needs adjusting.

  2. I shall check my hand book later and report back.

  3. I just cannot remember what the exact milage is when my fuel light comes on and if it indeed it comes on when the gauge shows two bars. Next time I ride my Mutley will have to check it out. However it could be a while, around here I think a boat would be more appropriate. However I do not believe the handbook 4 litres, I'm sure mine more like MutltJSY 7 litres.

  4. Ok So today was supposed to be a nice day, So I took it upon my self to test my tank range just to see if my light was coming on early and if after a brew stop the gauge read the same as it did when I'd pulled up,
I brimmed the tank and took this photo.

Then went to the first burger bar Devils Bridge
    it read

The Rang isn't totally accurate but hay ho.

Any who I met up with a few mates and road around most of the day on various types of roads A,B and M roads

My light came on at 130 miles coming up the M6
I stopped at one of the most expensive petrol stations in Cumbria after my last bar started flashing and my range meter went to 0 and started flashing.
here's the photo after I filled her up again.

This is how many ltr's I got in after the range flashed 0
    043.jpg
171 miles to a full tank
God know how my light kept coming on at 104, the only thing I can think of is that in an attempt to get as much fuel in for the range test I stud the bike upright to fill her and kept going until it was going to over flow.

  5. 19.2 litres = 4.22 imp gallons 171 miles = 40.5 MPG

So 20 litre tank = 4.4 imp gallons giving a theoretical range of 178.2 miles.

Reserve light came on at 130 miles which if you are getting 40.5 mpg means you have used 3.2 galls = 14.5 litres leaving 5.5 litres left in tank. So light on 5.5 litres left not too far away from book figure.

  6. When the light comes on, I always think 50 miles to empty.

  7. I was very surprised. I haven't been taking it easy today riding with a few sports bikes, plus I've been keeping her on the boil through the lanes, so would have thought I would have run out sooner.

  8. 'Scuse the off topic post, but what Sat Nav is that JC?

  9. I can answer that its a Garmin 350LM marked with a Ducati logo.

  10. Its actually the new Ducati sat nav that comes with a replacement bar clamp and the wiring plugs straight in, it's also pre programed with all the Ducati dealers, although for some reason when I took it for it's first service instead of taking me to DMC Moto in Preston it took me to a kebab shop in Preston instead. I popped in to ask if they did servicing on Ducati's? And they said no but we do extra hot chilli sauce and onions.

  11. Still a Garmin Sat Nav. When I got my bike I ordered the Sat Nav mount as an optional extra from Ducati and mounted my Garmin 350LM onto it.

  12. its BS.

  13. Well yes, and no, fuel is used to cool the pumps, but on the inside of the pump.
