I've never met a dyno operator that didn't say their reading was conservative……………i guess if you have a before and after thats more relative from the same dyno..
QUOTE=andyb;295295]I've never met a dyno operator that didn't say their reading was conservative……………i guess if you have a before and after thats more relative from the same dyno..[/QUOTE] indeed andy , absolutely right .... so adding 10 to 14 bhp all over the range over an R engine would make me absolutely delighted... the RS SBK clutchpack and the better cooling should keep them available and fresh for longer... for your info : i ve had the bike on 3 different dyno's and Steve was the lowest..
but your right about the smooth torque curve…….and smooth throttle delivery……..or hope the electrics can sort it out for you!!
bit of a problem with the radiator i bought in italy ... didn't fit properly to suit the SBK pipe, especially tubing and exhaust. grrr.. so had to take the plunge and fitted the one MR uses.. not the full faced RS one but this one will do nicely .. the blue looks the part as ever.. i'm strolling in the halway as Steve is laying the last hand on the mapping ... like a doctor doing a delivery ... but much more complicated... i'm stressed out...
here's the verdict : +16 hp and 18% more torque at 6500 ... +7 hp and 11% more torque at 11K and topped off for longivity ... diff kicks in at 5250... and pulls away all over the line.... graph to be posted at the ned of the series. .. i am one happy punter... !
Kope999 how close are you to a BSB/WSB Pani output? What kind of factor difference in build cost? You must be pretty close, but at a reasonably distant cost?
Good question .. The power was mapped to flatten out at 190 at 11k . Let it run on to 12k in the same line and it will hit 195 at the wheel . Bsb will hit 201 and alstare hit 208 . The 201 was on the same dyno . But 7 bhp extra from a factory bike seems spot on . As to cost i dont talk numbers but let s say that to put the enigine at 201 . I d have to add another 60 % of what i put in now. But more importantly i would have to put that 60% in every 1500 kms instead of the tracking scheme i put in now which is slight at 5k and bit more at 10k .. From what i hear the evo sbk bike will cost 100k . Revised RS engines can be found at 20k . Converting an SL to sbk suspensio and brakes will put it at 85k. Specking it up further with sbk pipe , mapping and looms and datakit another 7k .. As to mine : i like to think of it as the sensible man s RS.. And a pritty one for that
But i m quit sure it will be much faster bike as it is now .. That torque difference down low will make it get out of corners pulling a lot harder . At 6600 rdvs There will be the same torque at only 45 % throttle instead of the 100% before .. When you know i hardly ever hit 100% throttle it will make quit a difference . The throttle is shorter and is mapped to that improved torque curve so the engine won t bog down when you whack it . 16 bhp more at 6500 is quit a jump .. I hope the dtc will take care of me
Not to criticise your riding skill, but I'd be really interested to see comparative lap times with MR's BSB bike with their rider. Your bike surely wouldn't be far off... Makes me wonder if the extra 60% they spend is really worth it...
don't worry , that bike is still a lot faster...it's always like that . the last bhp, the last pound of weight to loose, that last 1 th of a second costs unserious money ... they run the engine till 12.700 all the time, and the electronics package is mapped to the handle this from corner to corner... it's really another league still... the plan is to have the major contender for the dutch ONK SBK cup have a go to set some benchmarks about 10 seconds of my time to have a comparison to work to.. he rode within an inch to the SPA lap record last year on a SSTK pani.. which tody is 24 seconds of my best time yet on this one... my goal is to hit 2:45 ... and the bike as it is now should enable me to do just that...
Tom, it has to be worth it or they wouldnt. A tenth is a tenth and at that level is like 2 seconds at my level at least.
The way that torque is calculated with engine speed, the line with hp will always intersect at 5252rpm.
Correct .. What i meant was the lines between the before and after dynos .. Not bhp and torque lines . Tx
The thing is, racing is about who's the fastest out of the set. It's all comparative, so if everyone dropped the extra 60% the relative change between teams would be minimal and the racing more fun and interesting. I can only imagine the amount of money that kope has spent and the money MR must spend on their BSB bikes. Imagine the security for the team and the benefits for the workers if that money was spent elsewhere or not spent at all. I love motorbikes, I love racing. I don't watch to see which bike is the fastest, I watch to see which rider is the most skilled. I want to see Valentino the lion tamer with his head in the the jaws of a vicious, untamed motorcycle that wants to kill him. Adding electronic Rider aides and chasing every last tenth from the machine detracts from the skill and showmanship of the sport, in my view. I can clearly see why they chase 10ths and throw in these sparkly electronics packages as they want to win. But take away all the extras and they'll have to win through better riders rather than better bikes. This is what I think the sport should be about. This isn't really aimed at you kope, and I'm sorry for derailing the thread. Your bike is a wonderful piece of equipment and I'm sure you'll get a lot of enjoyment out of owning it and riding it. I think that your bike is a perfect example of what should be the acceptable standard in racing compared with how things stand right now.
you have a good point. I used to race yachts for owners in my younger days and enjoyed the monotype classes over the prototype classes for the closeness of the racing ... much more thrilling to go with 5 boats around the mark then to have to wait ten minutes for your competitor to arrive just to see you lost by 15 seconds on handicap.. But stil, knowing you're on the edge of technology has it's own very special appeal... and it's where progress comes from... we can all race afoordable twinbikes and have a ball... as many do ... but still take away the primadonna tech stuff and loads of appeal and aspiration disappears...
