Alternative 530 pitch rear sprockets for the MTS1200?

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by AndyW, Mar 16, 2012.

  1. Going to be treating the bike to new chain and sprockets this year, will defo be D.I.D 530 gold chain, had them on my yam and always look good and lasted well, but unsure whether to go for 15/40 or 15/42. there was a lot of discussion on what is best and I'm hoping AndyW will comment if he has noticed any difference. Also how many links, both Andy and Piero who fitted 108 and 110 links respectfully to a 15/42 setup say their chain size is perfect, I would have thought a 2 link difference would make a difference. I hope I can get the look of Andy's as its the dogs ;)

  2. I went with 15/42 and the 108 link chain is perfect. I think the 5% lower gearing is an improvement as I rarely got into 6th unless on an M way/autoroute.

  3. What he said :D ........noticeable improvement to slow speed traffic and town riding (simples really......the motor is carrying a few more RPMs for any given speed hence will pull more smoothly at low speeds).
Loss to top end......well how often does anyone use that - top end might be a little lower but you'll get there quicker! lol
Only down side is slightly higher fuel consumption.

108 link chain will be nearer the eccentric cam's (chain adjustment) minimum point, 110 chain will be somewhere past that point further towards max adjustment.

Not seen you around for a while Fritz....all ok?

  4. @Piero is perfectionist and @AndyW is practitioner;)
    Both solutions work!

  5. Changed chain and sprockets (15/42) earlier this week, really like the 15/42 sprocket combo.
My OEM chain and sprockets lasted approx. 24300k's....

  6. Just wondered where you got the sprocket. Is it from Supersprox and if so from a UK supplier or direct from factory?

  7. The two sprockets pictured in my post #105 (15/05) are my old OEM sprockets.

See my post #65 had a MTS chain / sprocket kit hand-carried from the USA: www.ca-cycleworks.com to Shanghai / China last year.

  8. Chrome em and mount them :)

  9. mate ~ spot on, that was somehow the general idea and as we shall try out some ceramic coatings soon over here in Shanghai / China might have them coat the sprockets, shall see...

  10. Sorry to deag this out again a year down the line...

Thinking of going this route myself. Any other feedback on this since the last posts?

Any UK suppliers or is is still direct to supersprox?

    Cheers
    Nick

  11. Save money and go for a 14T front, I did and it's great, roughly equivalent to 15-43.

  12. Do I understand this correctly: I will not have to split the chain to change to the 14 T front sprocket?
