Has any manufacturer improved on the Multi Decat pipes?

  1. I am that mystery buyer! Sorry not to have posted anything sooner...and I still can't give you chapter and verse but first impressions are that the pipe work is of excellent quality - nice welds!

I sneaked off work a little early today to try and get it fitted (cos AndyW keeps bugging me to get something up here! ;)) - however time and lack of daylight conspired against me.

What took up all the time was removing various bits to get at the old system! The bolt holding the bash plate on underneath had rusted to burgery and removal of the side stand to remove the bash plate was a pain. Also the clamp holding on the rear 'silencer' also needed a bit of attention before it yielded!

Anyway, fitting the new decat was really straightforward and I had it all lined up and in place in a couple of minutes - but darkness had descended (no garage:().

So, hopefully I will complete fitment tomorrow along with fitting the speedycom servo gizmo and then I will take some pics and audio for you all!
    :)

  2. Sorry about the bugging........I get like that some times :D (well quite a lot really ;-P )

  3. Looking forward to seeing/hearing it Zed3 but first impressions regarding build seem good (ie fitment) which is always a decent start. :upyeah:

  4. OK - managed to complete fitment of new exhaust (little bit of assistance required from trolley jack just to get the mountings lined up - but it is good solid steel - not like some of the thin flimsy stuff used in others :upyeah:)

Disconnected the exhaust valve servo and plugged in the Speedycom server buddy with mounting anticipation....(removal of exhaust valve servo motor will have to wait for another day as it looks quite involved)...flicked the ignition switch....only to be greeted with.."Error....LOW BATTERY"..:Arghh:

Someow the battery had discharged over the four days it has been standing since it's last ride. It has been fine all through the winter, standing outside often for several weeks without use, and has always started first time. Unlikely that anything I have been doing to fit new exhaust would have had an effect, but I did wire up my autocom with a temporary kind of fix last week so maybe this is the culprit.

    Anyway, battery now on charge...!

(I am not just drawing this out for dramatic effect...honest!)

  5. Forgot to mention one slight drawback/criticism - there is no provision for the centre stand if you have one.

It's not that the exhaust fouls the centrestand, it's just that when the centrestand is up there is nothing for it to 'stop' on - well there is , but this is the rubber chain guide on the underneath of the swing arm! And it is not easy to see how a DIY 'bodge' might fix this (any ideas gratefully received) - or I may just have to live without centrestand.

Maybe Ben needs to look at an addition to his design for those with centrestands.

  6. Thanks Mike............I thought there was a centre stand stop bracket on the prototypes, I'll flag this up with Ben right away. Now you've fitted the pipe the solution isn't much use to you....return to Ben to have a bracket welded on - otherwise as you say, live without the centre stand (but then you'll need to buy a paddock stand or better still an Abba stand.....mind you well worth having any way).

  7. Already spoke to Ben about the stand stop so hopefully he's onto it.

  10. You are now! lol .............finished fitting?

Forgot to ask before....you did get the discount price (£270) for forum members?

  11. Having trouble posting pics - is there a size limit?

  12. Not that I'm aware of Mike but possibly......do you have a photo hosting account with Flickr, SmugMug or anyone?
If you're still stuck email then to me and I'll put them up via my MTS1200 photo galleries ;-)

  16. Leo Vinci decats are now back in stock! Ordered mine on 14/04/14 arrived today! £330.
Having it fitted at JHP Coventry & they are remapping ECU (already have K&N race filter fitted)
I've not ordered the extra baffle - I'll see what it sounds like first.

  17. Hi fern how much is jhp charging you to fit and map

  18. Hi Mel,
I'm having a fluids service (3 year) plus the fit & re-map. Have'nt had a confirmed price yet but looking around £350ish. They can't fit me in 'til 3rd May, but I'll get a firmer price before then & let you know.

  19. Keeping us on tenterhooks again Mike? (@Zed3 )

  20. Yes - Sorry guys - slight technical hitch. Set out to do recording on a stretch of road near me; all went well until I fired the beast up. My camera must have some kind of automatic sound level/anti-wind noise setting on it - fine while I was talking, but starting up the Multi was too much for it and cut the sound to virtually nothing - similarly when I tried to do a 'fly past'! Currently working on editing the video to improve sound or may resort to re-shooting with different camera.

I can confirm that the set-up (I have OE end can with Ben's pipe) sounds awesome from to tickover all the way through to high revs. I managed a couple of runs out over the weekend on my own and a trip with my wife, Helen, as pillion. I think it sounds absolutely fantastic, although she thought it was a little anti-social in terms of volume!:))) It definitely turns heads when arriving in small villages! In fact the noise does seem much louder/more intrusive at lower revs and above 50ish mph it is not much more noticeable than the standard set up and would be no problem for touring with.
