848 Fitting Termis To An 848 Evo

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by Phykell, Oct 1, 2014.

  1. Hi,

I've just got some Termignonis (slip ons), plus air filter and ECU, for my 848 Evo. Can anyone advise on what's needed to fit them? Any pitfalls I need to be aware of for example?

I've done a full rebuild on a ZX9R including splitting the engine, etc. so this should be easy right?

    Thanks :)

  2. Its easy. Cans slips on, ecu connects up and air filter slides in. Took me about 2 hours to strip mine off and put it back to standard. And that was taking my time.

  3. May need TPS reset after...:upyeah:

  4. Thanks - sounds easy enough :)

Shame about the TPS reset - I was hoping the right ECU was all that was needed. I'm in Cheshire so I just have to find somewhere that can do the rest now - Manchester Ducati?

  5. It'll run ok without tps but may just cut out. Get it sorted if it needs it. It might not

  6. Yeah changing the ECU will mean a TPS reset, shouldn't be too difficult for a dealer to fit u in.

  7. or just buy the leads and get the software...

  8. What leads and software? I did see a couple of diagnostic devices mentioned but aren't they a fortune and require detailed knowledge and experience? Or is it just a matter of pressing a button and it's done?

Anyone else done a DIY TPS reset?

  9. Am curious as to why TPS reset is necessary. Its only a variable resistor after all and unless it has been moved, it should give a usable reading.
For what its worth I have changed back and forth between street system and race system (inc ecu swaps) on 1098R and have never had any running issues on either set up. TPS has never been touched apart from at service time.

  10. As I understand it the TPS is a simple potentiometer, but the ecu needs to be told where its base line at fully closed throttle is. Is it 2.6 degrees or is it 5, 4, 3.7?
You may well be fine just swapping over.
I have swapped and had staling issues, another time I've swapped and been ok.
    Try it and see :)
It takes longer to take the fairings off than to do the reset.
If you don't want to investigate using the software and buying leads, call your local dealer and ask for a quote, if they're nearby I'd consider removing the fairings at home and ride the bike in.

  12. hi chris. have you / would you recommend doing this by bluetooth? i've seen some bluetooth modules on the bay but am still unsure as to what to go for. have heard some people going on about this but can't really see the advantages...

    cheers, ian.

ps. will you be about over the weekend and not too busy??? :)

  13. JPDiag will work with a BT ELM327, or if you have Android there is Scan M5. Some have the BT stuff for use with their cars so why not use it with the bike. Personally I use the USB lead as it allows me to do more advanced things. I can show you the BT in action if you want. I am about this weekend, drop me a text.

  14. Thanks a lot, Chris. Will do.

  15. Thanks everyone - the Termis are now fitted (and look great) along with the replacement ECU and performance air filter. Actually, the replacement air filter didn't look that much better than the original

The ECU was really irritating to try and remove because I'd not seen it mentioned anywhere (including the service manual) that there are some lugs that you have to press in before the retaining clips will rotate. Overall, if I was doing the same job again, I'd remove the front nose cone to replace the air filter as there was too much bending of bodywork to get the ram air ducting and cover out.

Will look at my TPS reset options next - thanks for all the input :upyeah:

The bike seems to start just fine (haven't ridden it yet) and revs OK (only tried a few K). The noise didn't seem that different to the original silencers but then I removed the DB killers and it made a *huge* difference! Once I'd switched it off, it then smoked slightly from the exhausts and stopped after a couple of minutes. I presume that's nothing to worry about though...

  16. No need to remove nose to get at filter. Just the side panel and fairing infills

  17. sound great, don't they? :upyeah:

today @chrisw came round to work and i watched him work his magic with my bike. (had the exhaust valve and sensors eliminated). while his computer was connected chris also reset the fan cut in temperature down to 98 degrees and did a tps reset.
it was so impressive watching him work his magic that i asked him to get me the cables so i can start doing my own (basic) stuff. well worth investing in the cables and software if only for the service light reset.

    many thanks, chris. ;)

  18. I managed to do it without removing the nose cone - but there's no way that much bending can be good for the nose cone. Never again.

Agreed - it sounds amazing, intoxicating, etc.

I just went out on it before a TPS reset and I got a lambda sensor warning. Starting is a bit more difficult than it was too. Got it home and started it again - no warnings now so I don't know what's going on. Perhaps it really does need that TPS reset....

  20. With the DP ECU you can remove the Lambda(s) and use blanking plugs.
