St4 radical project

  1. Yeah where the pinch clamp is it just steps up from there. I noticed it on my mates fire blade rr.

  2. Did 90 miles on the project today and loved every minute of it. A few tweeks here and there needed on the suspension.
One small issue with the slipper clutch which doesn't seem right is it takes a long time for the revs to drop on down shifts. My EVR one on my fighter drops allot quicker and you get a clicking through the lever. But the ducati slipper seems to take ages for the revs to catch up. Any one know if this is normal or do I need to replace the spider spring or something?

  3. Did 230 miles on sunday and it was great. I've been playing around with the gearing and I think I'm close to perfect at the moment. I've gone from 42 tooth rear/ 15 front, Which was a bit crazy....... to 39 rear 14 front. I had a few sprockets kicking around the garage from my wifes monsters which work.
I'm having a few issues with the handling though. It tips in great and steers quick but when I'm on the power coming out of a fast corner its going wide. I have lowered the rear as far as it will go for a bit of comfort. I'm wondering if this is making this happen. Any ideas?

  4. Yep, that's precisely what would make it run wide.

  5. dropping the rear will push weight backwards unloading the front. As you accelerate, weight transfers rearwards, decreasing front grip causing the bike to run wide.

  6. You previously mentioned fitting bar risers, did you do it? I think it would be the wise thing to do, then you could raise the rear back up a bit or drop the forks through the yokes to restore the steering angle, hopefully without the discomfort.

  7. No I haven't got round to fitting the risers as yet. Just can't justify the price on them tbh.
I think I'll try lifting the back up again, bit by bit and see how much higher it has to go.
Does anyone know if I'd get better performance out of an air box or as I have it at the moment with K&N cone filters? I've read allot of posts that say to cut holes in the ST4 air box to give better performance so was wondering what's best. I'm looking to up the performance of the engine this winter and was wondering which would be the best way to go.

  8. The strange thing about that is that if I slide my weight to the rear of the seat it feels better when cornering. Could that be because my weight it already to the rear as I'm entering the corner and not so much weight transfer. Or am I over analysing things.

  9. What about bars from a production bike then? I fitted Aprilia Falco bars to my RSV as they had a 2" rise. Obviously the fork diameter needs to be checked first, but there must be other bikes with raised clipons, then you're looking at ebay for secondhand sets for cheap.

  10. Still no luck with the bar risers Figaro but I'm still keeping an eye out.
I've found a complete front end off a 1098 and was wondering if it would drop into my ST4 frame? Or are the head bearings bigger? Anyone know please?

  11. I have 1098 forks on mine, the offset is the killer for using the 1098 yokes. superbikes have a steeper head angle so they need to run higher offsets, if you stick those yokes on a ST it would wreck the handling.

the 1098 forks will fit in the bottom yoke if you space them out with some 1/2mm ally, the top yoke would need to be machined out to fit, or, you can have a new top yoke made up. Mark at MADASL made mine, a custom top yoke might sort your clip on issue out too as you could run a flat or a light rise bar mounted to the top and run a steering damper as well...

this is the top yoke and 1098 forks fitted to mine.

  12. If your fork legs stick out of the top yoke, fit your bars above yoke same as on SSie.

  13. That's great info Attila..... I will not need to buy the top yoke then which was priced up separately , so you saved me some money there mate. Just got to measure my disc hole spacings on my fighter to see if I'll have to change the front wheel or the rear to match up.

  14. Correct.

There will be a solution, even if that solution is bespoke equipment. And even if it has to be bespoke, how much can a set of bars cost..? It ain't rocket science, so I wouldn't think it would hurt too much.

  15. Looks like I have to sell my project bike very reluctantly. I'm thinking of advertising her for around £4000. What do you guys think value wise? I've spent way more than that on the bike renewing every bearing and bolt but I did it as a enjoyable hobby. I've just moved house and the renovations are crazy money.

  16. Is it finished? Still 4k for person in kniw will be good

  17. Yes mate all finished and going really good. I'm trying everything I can not to sell but need to pay for a new roof. Welsh slate is very expensive.

  18. Can you not put it off road to save a bit and keep it. Labour of love you will never forget :(
