749 Termignoidea!!! Help...

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by Si749, Jan 3, 2015.

  1. Morning all

I'm looking to buy a slip on termi end can for my 05 (new swing arm) 749 and i'm getting very confused. There seem to be so many different options in terms of pipe diameters, link pipes etc and they're not cheap so I want to make sure i'm buying the right thing.

Please can someone tell me what I should be buying or is there a definitive list somewhere which shows people which systems fit which years of bike?

PS - if anyone has one for sale at a sensible price let me know.

    Many thanks

    Simon

  2. in its simplest form you could get a decatted front pipe and a silencer keeping the asymmetric system
or a complete same length system in what ever size you want though as a std 749 you probably won't want need big so a 54mm system
Dont forget the fuelling will need sorting too.

  3. As Andy states your best bet is a std race can, ideally a straight through one as some are semi race (no cat in for one cylinder) then a std front cylinder pipe thats been decatted (thats both gone then).
As thats the exhaust gasses out faster then you need to get air in quicker so better air filters and then the correct ecu/fuelling to match.
If in any doubt either post on here but if you measure your pipes then get the ones you fancy measured by the seller you will ensure like for like.

  4. Firstly, you dont need to be concerned with Diameters so forget that.

Diameters refer to full systems so if you are looking for a slip on then you need to find just the standard can or the asymmetric system which is the can plus link pipe. If you get the incorrect link pipe and it wont fit, it can be made to fit with a block of wood and come careful bashing. The link pipes are confusing as there are different sumps plus different swingarm designs. If you cant find a Termi link pipe, then Mivv make one as they are available from either Ebay or from BR special tuning for around a hundred quid.

Make sure you know what you are looking at as some sellers will list items incorrectly (im sure on purpose in many cases). Use caution. A carbon cover with Termi on it does not mean its a Termi. Have a look at this thread where you will see examples of the differences in shape and construction. 999 - Termignoni Can | Ducati Forum

Termi has just started making the end cans again and is supplied as a kit including ECU. It may come with the decat pipe too. About 1200 quid new.

Expect to pay 6-700 quid for a good used asymmetric system which may or may not come with the ecu so then theres a power commander or ecu reflash.

You may be able to find the odd end can a bit cheaper and then buy a pipe separately. I did.

If you go as far as an end can it is worth running the decat pipe. If you struggle with getting a pipe, consider cutting it open and removing the cat and getting it welded with stainless weld. = cheaper.

Spark and Leo Vince also make slip ons and are available on ebay new. Normally about 800 quid.

There are no cheap exhausts for these bikes other than the GPR, Mivv or Remus pipes. They still cost new but dont hold their value so well so there are bargains out there but not Termi as we all look out for them.

Ive tried a few but the Termi makes the best noise for volume and tone, has the best resale value and in my eyes looks the best too.

If you see something you like the look of, post it up and we will tell you if its the real deal.

    Hope this helps.

  5. some good advice there,, but may I add,, if you are looking to get anything welded then you must take it to someone who knows what they are doing as the section is very light and not a job for a monkey.

  6. +1

    Professional job only.

  7. So nobody ever ever sells parts of full systems?
I feel it would be a very poor idea not to take a few moments to check measurements to potentially avoid a world of grief and expense etc

  8. They are available yes. Mentioning diameters only adds to the confusion where the chap is already struggling due to the many variants out there. The point of the thread is to help and assist him rather than confuse.

The biggest issue with slip- ons seem to be that people are duping buyers into buying standard exhausts thinking they are Termi. Two members on here didnt know and ive seen this myself so the attached link to a previous discussion should hopefully steer Si749 away from those.

Other than that the only confusion is for the end can but if someone buys a full system end can thinking its a slip on they are either blind or just plain stupid as they are a different construction.

    For Si:

This is a full system can not a slip on - no link pipes.

More grief is caused with getting the incorrect link pipe with a system which is sump and swingarm clearance related rather than incorrect pipe diameter as there is only one.

  9. Mentioning diameters I disagree, what I said was checking what you are buying actually matches /fits what you Have is always wise.

  10. 749RS my arse....no such thing!

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  11. Are you sure?

    Want to google that?.......

The 749RS is the factory race bike. Just ask Jerry.

  12. Disagreement is allowed.

  13. Er No !

the factory race bike was a FO 3,4,5,6, 999

the customer race bike was a 999 RS

Ducati made a few 749R to comply with the homologation for supersport ( using a few crap bits TBH) Some then converted these with a few 999RS bits and a few made up bits too

The factory never made a 749RS.......fact!

  15. Yep. 749r with extras 20130603_164626.jpg

  16. Another famous thread hijack.

Yep, its an R with BSB kit right?

    Heres Jerrys thread.

    Jerrys worlds: The Ducati 749RS

So there isnt an RS. But there is. Its a factory kit, not a whole bike.

Interesting though it may be, I cant see how this is now relevant to helping someone find the right exhaust.

    Good luck Simon.

  17. Someone side tracked the thread with silly talk of 749RS's

  18. Well it wasnt me, I just posted up a link to show Simon a different end can design.
