998 998 Matrix Production Numbers

  1. I do like the plaque

Exhaust good ,I thought that too, but front header pipes (996) different angle from (998) I think the problem started from there when front was good crossover pipes would stop side stand or chain once ok there ,it would not match bolt holes to attach to frame lol gave up then bloke I got it from was good sending it back for a refund I am gutted really but a bit beyond my level of DIY

  2. I've only seen two others with it, suspect as usual the parts bin had some lying around :)

Damn blast and bu**er it differs then and I would have argued that it fitted all bikes in this range.
Best find a Deffo 998 one then I guess ?

  3. The rear section certainly of 45 mm 998 pipes are the same as the 748-9*6 range and possibly the link pipe might also match across the full range but the front pipes and manifolds for a 998 are different and the deep sump model has different front pipes again.

Ebay is the worst place to see examples of people listing items that allegedly fit right across from 748 to 998 when in fact the 998 is much more unique in some areas than it seems at first glance.

  4. Your so right I am learning the hard way, started looking on here more now

Leaving shallow sump as 45mm now not going to try anymore started looking for the deep sump now at least I will find one that fits properly but it brings other problems with it may I ask if there's anyone who could re-flash an ECU to suit the size of exhaust I get E.G 60mm,54mm

    Thanks

  5. CJS can set up the bike on a dyno with a complete map to fit the exhaust, have you checked to see if these exhaust will work with a stock? engine as they are certainly big for a standard bike.

  6. Stock is a 50mm so the 54mm not too worried about the bigger pipes yes I do believe are better with some porting but that's only what I ve read on forums, only asked because I may get the chance to get a full 60mm just waiting to see how much and if he would sell it but not holding my breath
I ve been on CJS website they look very good indeed did nt they port and 57mm exhaust and get over 150bhp

  7. My 999R Fila has the 54mm system (£2500 when new) and is very quiet, my other 999 now gone had the std size system but de catted and was much louder.
Reason explained to me was great, blow down a pea shooter and listen then blow down a drain pipe and listen, it was true.

  8. Have you seen this thread? What number is yours :)

  9. That's a great way of explaining like it

    What's your R like to ride ?

  10. One more thing would the head from a 1098 fit on to the deep sump engine I ve been looking but not seen anything thanks

  11. It's a lot comfier as thinner and all manner of things differ, more refined to but still has character.
Always wanted a 996r but couldn't afford one at the time then in 2003 this baby was born.

  12. I have no idea but I'm sure somebody on here has, but why ?
Playing Mr neutral here all this engine and work/cost your exploring is it really worth it for an extra 13 ish bhp ?

  13. That's looks lovely I did nt like them at first but now I see them in a different light would love her in my garage nice choice the Fila the 999 is still Ducati's most successful race bike
Is doing all this worth the expense lol not really suppose I just got carried away after changing the front end to ohlins (which meant changing everything ) no regrets over doing that ,I was just looking for some more power , I wanted about 140bhp , the engine was just a fluke I suppose I m trying to make the bike Ducati should have made really Ohlins front end with a deep sump like the S
Ask about the heads as I maybe able get my hands on a pair off an ex BSB bike from a very well known rider
So why did you buy a Matrix then

  14. I don't think they would fit @nelly would know.

Even if they did, without any other mods they would be a waste of money.

  15. If you are looking at upping performance then get CJS to gas flow the heads cleaning up the ports in the process, no doubt cheaper than trying to adapt a set of heads to your current engine. If you have the engine mapped and the ECU flashed after that you will have the correct set up and the fuelling will match right the way through the range.

I fitted a 748R in a 748S frame which means using smaller injectors (and a lot more other bits and pieces) for which there is no acceptable ECU chip for that setup so I had to go the CJS route and have a full re-map and it is perfect for my setup, so it is worth doing if you are going for something that is not likely to have a decent or well researched map for your specific setup. Every bike is different and a map set up exactly for your own bike will match perfectly, it is by far the best and most logical way forward in my opinion.

Just make all modifications you wish to make before getting it mapped. My 748R engined bike would only start but not run barely at all when I did my engine swap and after comimg back fully mapped from CJS is it was all I wanted it to be and only the merest fraction down on power compared to an original 748R with the much larger 54mm injectors. Even a decent dyno session and mapping can release hidden power through a badly set up bike, even from new.

  16. Let's see some Ohlins pics and what did you have to do ?

Don't forget earlier ducatis bhp was measured at the rear wheel so it's more than is stated vs the usual figures so your matrix is circa (guess) 150bhp now, it ain't short of power ?

Always wanted a 998 as had the later motor in plus had so many red and yellow ones. Loved the colour and I like things that are different plus this was in the US so a challenge/fine price.

  17. Which bit did you vote "disagree" with then @PVW ?

  18. Mine has a plaque fitted and I've seen others with the same plus it's public info that 321 were made of which 150 for the U.S.

  19. Show us a pic! The ones I saw at the factory didn't have them, and didn't have holes in the top yoke for them either.

What source is the 321 number from? I tried googling but couldn't find any confirmed number.
