1198 1198 Handling

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by cookster, Jun 17, 2015.

  1. hi chaps any one have handling problems with there 1098/1198?? my 1198 does handle well but when tipping it in on a fast run it feels like the front wants to tuck in on its self, i did have the suspension made softer be mh racing but it still doesnt really fill me with confidence when cornering fast, could this be down to tyres, suspension set up or me not trying hard enough?? cheers guys.

  2. I had this problem on my 848. Got the tire pressures right, 32 / 36, dropped the ride height to 225 mm instead of 235 and dropped the forks a little more. Worked for me. Still need a suspension setup but I feel the bike's already better than before. Feels better anyway.

  3. cool cheers mate,il try that.

  4. What tires are you running ? if mine aren't up to temp it doesn't really work. Also check the pressures..

  5. im running pirelli super corsa sp tyres but there nearly 3 years old now.

  6. 3 Year old tyres? How many miles on them? You sure they have not squared off thus causing the tipping in sensation? Its not obvious on the front until close inspection of the tyre.

  7. not many miles mate bike only done 7000 total, not sure how many on tyres.

  8. I have the super corsa sp2 on my 1098. I posted up some pics of uneven front tyre wear some time ago but cannot find the thread. The tyre had strangely worn unevenly on one side to the point it was bald in places whilst the other side was near perfect. Have you had a good look at your'e front tyre mate. And no, i aint no moto gp rider who surfs roundabouts lol.

  9. words fail me........

  10. 'Invest' in a new pair of tyres! You'll be happy with it then!

Been through the same process with suspension set up and it still didn't feel right, new tyres BINGO great bike!!

  11. right ive got a new set of dunlop sportmax d211 just arrived, i will get um on asap and let you know results, cheers chaps.

  12. D211s are old tyres. Replaced by the D212 at least 1+ year ago.

  13. as in 2011.........

  14. there Dunlops they will be a massive improvement

  15. dunlop still make the 211's chaps both tyres have 0515 date marks on them.

  16. Thread revival. How did you get on with your d211's? I wouldn't of picked them for the road.
Also tyre age isn't an issue its how they've been kept in that time that counts.
I got some 2009 Avon viper 2's and they grip like F@@k on my track bike.

  17. ;)he managed a fast ten miles on them in July. He even worn the stickers off the rear after a blast on a dual carriageway

  18. The Dunlop's are great once there warm.

  19. They're still making them now in France, I've just used 2x sets of the track version at the weekend and they're still brilliant tyres !-)
