im going to wrap it! youve convinced me, i will stick termi manifolds on while im at it, and report findings
I bought a inconel system and I can't believe how quick it cools and I've not had a hot arse since even in traffic for over 30 mins! Life saver
Can you not reflective space foil the underside of the seat too? You can also get chemical self cooling gel seats for furniture. I'm sure you could get your seat stuffed with that and reupholstered. I know from riding around Italy in scorching weather a while ago, how hot those bikes can get on your arse and thighs.
Funny you should say that, I've recently bought myself a sheet of TeknoFibra (Teknofibra Heat Resistant Materials) and lined the underneath of my seat with it. I'm yet to go out and see if this makes a difference, but there's a chap on the 899panigale.org forum who says it's completely cured his hot seat issue, so we'll wait and see! On that note, the sheet cost me £120 delivered and I only needed a quarter of it. If anyone out there wants to line the underneath of their seat with it and wants a piece let me know!
Annoyingly I've not had a chance to ride the bike since fitting it and I'm away this weekend. I'll hopefully be able to get out on the bike early next week and let you know!
Hi Matt... Yep ceramic coating was a really good job.. and it was quick... 48hr turnaround. Fitted the bike backup with the ceramic header and titanium wrap.. What can i say i feel like im cold now when riding... The heat used to keep me warm... I actually miss it ...lol. Also put a new carbon fibre hugger on... No burn so far. So all in all im very happy. The hugger does how ever still get hot... but not hot enough to burn it as of yet. been running the engine temps up aswell to 100 - 104 with traffic jams ... So far so good. Will stick with the standard small 2012 heatshield for now... will add on the carbon fibre one once the wrap has settled. The wrap was really good too only smoked for the first 20 minutes. and then all good...
Good stuff, so glad to hear you're pleased with the results, I'd have felt pretty guilty if you'd have thought it was a waste of time and money!
So I've finally had the opportunity to get out on the Panigale for the first time since fitting the TeknoFibra to the seat and, at last, I no longer feel I'm going to be burnt to a crisp or sweat to death in my leathers whilst riding it! The heat hasn't totally disappeared but it is so much more comfortable now than when I first got it. It's obviously hard to put any actual science together for this or to make it meaningful other than saying how it feels to ride, but I'd say what I've done has removed something along the lines of 80% of the heat I was feeling beforehand. Maybe 81% at a push ;-) For reference (say this thread comes up in a google search for 'why is my Panigale so f**king hot' or 'Panigale tries to burn my ass/inner thigh at every available opportunity') here's the complete run down of heat containing measures I've taken... Bike is a 2012 1199 Panigale ABS with 2.5k mileage w/Termi end cans: Ceramic coated rear exhaust header (internally and externally coated) Rear exhaust header wrapped in titanium exhaust wrap '2nd gen' (larger style) carbon fibre heat shield Carbon fibre engine covers Carbon fibre subframe covers Ducati Performance comfort seat with TeknoFibra heat shield material applied underneath. I'm now looking forward to seeing what damage I cause now that the heat isn't hitting my thigh/ass anymore but being diverted elsewhere
Sorry if I'm being dim Chris, but I don't know what it is you want me to show you pictures of?! You mentioned you wanted to 'give this a go' in a previous post but I'm not sure what it is you want to do :Hilarious:
...just wouldn't have minded seeing a pic of how you applied the heat wrap to the exhaust No worries thou
