Hi Where did you guys mount the inline power adaptor feeding the Garmin? Just about to fit this and the Navihalter - just curious where you mounted the little transformer in the power loom. Did you all chop down the wires both sides too?
just picked up my new DVT, navihalter looks the way to go and i'm planning on buying the TomTom Rider 400. Anyone know if the navihalter and the GPS mount position above the clocks leaves enough space to rotate the TomTom 400 between landscape and portrait orientations??
Not sure - but probably - however Tom Tom wont connect with the bike blue tooth (unless its been sorted) that's why I just bought Garmin.
I know!! And yes it does. I rotate mine to portrait to fit and remove it, rather than landscape. Does the Garmin work with the bike blue tooth as a sat nav device?
I went a different way and mounted the TomTom on the handlebar yoke below the gauges. Uncluttered and easy to use/see, however, if one wishes to mount a tank bag forget about it.
I reckon that wouod work ok and be viewable with the little ducati tank bag. It sits quite far back and isnt very tall, plus you cant get a big bag on there as it fouls the bars
I disagree. I have the little Ducati tank bag but there is not enough visual space between the top of the bag and the bottom of the dash to fit in a satnav - that was my plan A, but it doesn't work even for me. For a shorter rider this would be even worse.
@Pete1950 I checked, and with the tank bag in place and sat in regular position I can see the Ducati writing on the handlebar clamp, so no reason you cant put the satnav there as suggested above. With a bigger tank bag yes it probably would be more of an issue
OK, @bradders . If you set up your Satan-nav on the handlebar clamp as you suggest, I would like to see how it comes out. Perhaps the next time we meet up somewhere.
I have been looking at this today on my DVT and found the cables you mention on the LHS under the cover . On the power cable for my garmin 390 there is a transformer to step down 12v to 5v. Am I right in thinking that the connector you mention above is putting out 5v and therefor you can cut off the 12v-5v transformer and most of the miles of cable from the garmin power lead? That was what I was planning to do if correct. I know that the two offical power connectors will be putting out 12v and the USB under the seat 5v. I assume that the satnav runs on 5v as that is the USB output from a laptop and there is no step down transformer needed to plug the satnav into the laptop to charge/transfer files. Cheers Graham
I believe its 12V - I connected to it via the transformer and all works. Wound the excess wire around the transformer with tie wraps to secure and mounted to the hole on LHS inside fairing infront of forks using double sided adhesive velcro - on top of something - not sure what.. All works - but not ridden yet..

Definitely 12v ignition switched supply. I've got it stepped down to USB voltage for my iPhone but knowing it's 12v means I have enough left to run some LED fogs when I get round to it.
