I feel like I should probably understand that, like there's a hidden message there somewhere as if we've spoken before, but if so I feel I should make clear that I'm massively thick. Like, ocean-goingly dense. And really forgetful. Sorry. Hello, though. It's always nice to be welcomed to things
My 1198s was doing the ignition spiking thing for ages, normally while i was at the lights - very embarrassing! Mine was due to the stockmap on the ecu being used with an Akra system. Changing that sorted it, and then i still had a low idle. The TPS reset sorted that out, and it now runs fine. Do you have an Android tablet, or can get access to one? My tps was reset by BB1000 on here with his tab, the correct leads (£20 i think) and an app called Tune Ecu. Might be worth investing the money for the leads and doing it yourself? Was very simple, and i'm sure BB could give you pointers if you get stuck.
My CCW TPS's are £45.00 for the 1098 and have been used by several Ducati Main Dealers and independent specialists with great feedback over the last year, even Aston Martin Works use them now :Angelic: Ducati Throttle Position Censor TPS IPF2 C/B 749, 848, 999, 1098, 1198, S4R, ST3 | eBay
I think I've used tune ECU before when I had a KTM- which my phone just autocorrected to KY Jelly- which reminds me I need to clear my cache, obviously. I don't have an android thingy but I do have a laptop so I'll drop BB a line now and see if he can suggest what to do and how to do it using exclusively very small words. If someone could tell me where the TPS lives that would be lovely. The Internet stubbornly refuses to say. I've even asked with an accent AND whilst smoking a candy cigarette, but apparently it's refusal to give up this precious, precious secret is not even motivated by racism. Just once I'd like to be discriminated on the grounds of racism. Being thick just hasn't got the same cache. Oops. There's another reminder. >presses all F keys simultaneously<
That's the one in my watch list! Wow- this is liking meeting a celebrity! Tell me where the TPS lives and I'll buy one this very instant. 'In the bike somewhere, near all the rats' is not enough enough info, by the way.
Try the cheap stuff first. A new fuel filter can be had cheap from here Mahle Fuel Filter KL145 A TPS reset using diagnostic can help. I have a loan Android set up if you need it. The Idle Control valve can get gummed up. Flushing through with carb cleaner can help.

Thanks Chris, that's awesome. I've ordered a fuel filter, which should be here Tuesday along with a new reg/ rec, relays, plugs. How do I clean/ where is the idle control valve? I'll happily give that a go whilst I'm breaking everything else. I've just been chatting to BB about the TuneEcu thingy so borrowing your android doobry would be great. Shall I PM you to arrange? When I'm using Tune Ecu do I have to upload a new map from their list (none of the ones on their site match my spec) thereby deleting the pro-twins installed PC111 map, or can I just plug it in to reset the TPS which for some reason may or may not have gone wonky? Needy, aren't I?
Thanks Ex, as you sensibly suggest I'll fit all the other stuff/ do all the other things you kindly, fragrant, generous lot have suggested then I'll be on my way to your inbox with hands full of coins stolen from children.
As above. Start with the free/easy/cheap stuff first. No point buying a TPS just yet I'd say. Plugs and fuel filter and inspection first.
"Free, easy and cheap" were actually my wedding vows. Also 'bruises easily, likes fizzy sweets' but apparently that was an affront to God. Hariboist bastards.
Hmmm... My 1098 was exhibiting similar issues last year after I parked it up for winter and did not charge the battery sufficiently. I could get a good charge in the battery, showing "battery good" but it would only start on the first or second crank and then I had to hold the throttle or it would stall. What I realised was, after umpteen charges and starting for 30 seconds or so the plugs had fouled and the battery was goosed. I put new plugs in and fitted a new battery and it was spot on. I cannot say this is your problem but there are similarities.
Thanks TW, I suspect my battery too. It's on the list once I've tried the other few bits and pieces. Is there a better battery (a bettery) that you all use for starting these bastard things?
