899 899s - Phase 2

  1. Let me know how you get on bleeding them. Due to the ABS pump etc bleeding the Panigale's successfully - i.e so you have a nice solid lever - is a total ball ache. I was going to take mine to JHS as they've got a proper vacuum bleeding tool to do it with.

  2. I use a syringe to pump the fluid up through the system.

  3. Not the best evening in the garage. So I bled my brakes. Got them feeling really nice and firm. Trouble is one of the bleed nipples is weeping very slightly around the thread. Tightened it up to 13Nm. Didn't want to go any higher than that....
I'll have to drain the brakes down and replace the nipple - nightmare!
Also I popped the radiator cap off and found this....
Expansion tank is empty - I'm guessing it drained when the bike went over in Jerez... Bike was on its side for 5 minutes probably until they picked it up........Top radiator 2/3rds full of coolant....bike hasn't overheated. Anybody got any thoughts......??

  4. Replaced the bleed nipple and brakes all sorted now. The brakes feel nice. Little more initial travel than I'd like but then they quickly firm up very nicely....can't wait to try.....

Spoke to MotoRapido and the view is the bike emptied its coolant tank when it was on its side and the residue on the expansion side has boiled up to form that wax. I did carry on riding the bike for the remaining days on it track but it stayed around the 80 degree mark on the gauge.

I've flushed though the expansion tank system and topped up all the levels. I'll keep an eye on it.

Fitted a sock on the MC reservoir and a new carbon shock cover....

  5. Nice bike and great upgrades. The 899 would be my bike of choice too for the track.

Garage is looking great, where did you get your flooring from?

  6. Thanks Haydn

I haven't really had the chance to explore the full extent of this bike on track yet but the few days I've done confirm that it certainly has potential. We are off to Almeria in April so I'm really looking forward to getting to know her better. Plus I've made a lot of changes to the bike so I'll need some time to dial them all in too...and what better way than three days in the Spanish sun....

Flooring is rubber flooring from ebay. It comes on 1.5m width rolls so you have to join it, I just extra wide gaffer tape on the back of the join. It's ideal flooring for a workshop. I was going to put a wooden floor in but the cost was getting out of hand....

  7. You tried those brakes yet mate?

  8. Tomorrow matey. Taxed her this morning and just need to put the number plate hanger and wing mirrors on. Won't bother putting the fairings on so we'll be rocking the street fighter look.
Brakes feel great on the lever, so I'm hopeful - and I'm keeping my fingers crossed the ABS still works.....
Interested to see how those Ducabike rearsets perform too....
Plus I've got to check I haven't got a coolant leak somewhere
Will be a very tentative first few miles especially on shagged Supercorsas.....

  9. Good luck mate, might be out on mine midday ish if your about

  10. will be later in the day I reckon.....

  11. This beauty arrived from Conquest Carbon today....have to say those guys are good.....

Just look at that beautiful gold adjuster......

  12. Just taken the bike out... Cold!

Brakes feel epic and that's with hardly bedding the pads in!! Real strong 1 finger braking. Deffo worth the aggro but didn't try ABS. I want to bed the pads in a bit before I start yanking the anchors on.....Certainly no error codes so its looking hopeful...

Ducabike rearsets give a bit more room, and make for a very short throw gearshift. You just need to add the tiniest amount of pressure and it changes up. Different but good I think.... My initial reservations are laid to rest.

Ohlins damper makes the bike feel more nimble - I don't like much steering damper on...

Coolant levels all good, and expansion tank settled out nicely...

  13. JESUS CHRIST!!!
How fast does this thing go because all ya front fairings have been blown off it.

  14. I knew I'd forgotten something.....

  16. will do....

  17. Looking forward to getting the bike back in the workshop tomorrow to finish up. We spent the past few days putting a full Akra system on Bugles S1000R. Took us 7 hours....was quite a faff!

  19. Mate, you're putting some quality kit on your bike but can't believe you've fitted them M50's up with those scabbly brakelines and banjos. One word 'HEL'

  20. Yep the lines are pretty scabby. I think the previous owner kept the bike in the canal.

I will get round to new lines when I'm confident the M50 transplant has worked.....
