  2. Well I'll back you up @Robarano I have a Shorai 21Ah in mine, LFX21A6-BS12, 21Ah, 315CCA. Although its not listed for the 1098 it fits a treat, it is a pricey option though and LiFe requires a little bit more homework and can be a little more fragile.

Failing that a good option is something like an Odyssey or Motobat these are AGM (Absorbed Gel Mat), which can take a lot of abuse and IMHO are superior to the standard gel types, downside a bit more expensive and usually bloody heavy.

    Just saying

  3. I got spare matey ... all yours if you want it

  4. My battery was iffy last year which caused similar issues, plug fouling and firing on one pot etc. Feel the heat from the end cans when it is running and see if you are on one cylinder, one will be cool. Mine was intermittent too, would fire on both at times. Hopefully you just need a new battery and maybe spark plugs. I assume its been stood all winter so likely to have a duff battery? fingers crossed.

  5. Such a simple thing to try, I wouldn't have thought of that. The benefits of a twin with one exhaust per pot.

  6. Thanks mate, will give that a test today. I use it regularly, at least once a week, up to three normally. I'm hoping it is just the battery.

Not being that mechanically minded once it started making the horrendous noise like something was trying to suddenly burst from the engine casing (Aliens style) i feared the worst.

  7. If firing on one pot for an extended period would ring to cylinder wall lubrication of the 'missing' pot be compromised by un-burnt fuel? Just thinking aloud...

    Bumpkin, harbinger of doom... :Nailbiting:

EDIT: Thinking a bit more about that; it would likely result in a thrown rod which would be pretty obvious and not make the sound that it is...

  8. Its not a two stroke, a cylinder not firing shouldn't have an affect on cylinder walls. You fill it will oil when pickling the engine.

  9. Also might be worth checking your air filter/s to ensure they are sealed correctly as can effect the noise of the bike in a similar way.

  10. Whilst lubrication is different to 2-strokes I would have thought that excessive un-burnt fuel will wash the bores and breakdown the oil film (look up 'bore washing' on Google). Isn't it the pressure of combustion that helps seal the rings...

  11. Bore wash is more on cars (and more so on race cars), where they are over dumping fuel into the cylinder.
If the plug is off then the fuel will just blow out anyway.
The walls are getting oil lubrication each stroke from below, it shouldn't cause a problem with a normally set up bike/map.
Easy enough to check..just dip your finger in your oil and sniff..if it smells like gas, then fuel is getting past the rings and into the oil, or if you do an oil change, it'll be dark black and have a sheen.
The bike doesnt seem like its missing though.. I have a BMW and when I had a bad coil and ran on 1 cylinder, the bike would really show it. At idle you'd see it shaking and rocking. The video doesnt seem to show it struggling.
New battery first. If its still acting up, check the airfilter and see if you're getting any oil blowing back thru the breather.

  12. I think i have found where the noise is coming from -

Is it possible to get it welded, or do i need a new section of pipe?

  13. Is that the front cylinder exhaust header?
I would get a second hand one if I were you.
    Well done for finding it!

  14. It is, yes. Might have to get on the phone to Elite Super Bikes then i think...

  15. @BB1000 gave me a new Yuasa battery (what a gent) and it started beautifully, first time, so hopefully those issues are sorted now. Still made the noise though, hence the investigation.

  17. Easy peasy mate!

  18. 1198 headers are bigger pitch than the 1098...Many ebay sellers will list the manifolds/headers as 848/1098/1198.

  19. I've had a look already and a lot of them do say for all the model range. Guess i need to ask them if it actually came from an 1198. Thanks for the info.
