1098 1098 Hates Me (normally My Wife's Job)

  1. It's people like you and I that are keeping standards alive, basically.

  2. And me, if I am careful I don't need to change my best trollies. DOH!

  3. Flash bastard. That you even possess more than one pair of trollies tells us just how decadent and wasteful your life is.

  4. Hello,

Sorry to drag this back to life, but this bastard bike lives to annoy another day.

Had it out at Snetterton today in the mostly pissing rain and it will not rev past 7k in any gear (though it's fractionally less shit in 1st and 2nd). It's like it's hit a really shitty rev limiter then the yellow engine management light flicks on for a moment, and I had to change up just to keep it going.

I had originally thought it might be the newly installed QS, so I disconnected it, and- yay for progress- that's not it.

Then I guessed the front coil might have gotten wet after the deluge, so I pulled that- and woo hoo!- all looks dry.

It will rev freely all the way to the redline in neutral, but under load it is a loathsome, stupid, sputtering, stuttering, fucktard of a thing.

I've done a search and whilst this 7-8k reluctance seems like a common problem, it mostly points towards a blocked fuel filter- but as avid fans of this ocean-going volume of evil tedium will know- we already changed that when we changed every-bloody-thing else. So, what now?

There are no error codes stores that are accessible via the dash.

The nice people at Pro Twins who built the bike think that maybe the fuel that sat in it for 3 years while it was being used may have caused the pipes to corrode and be starting to collapse, but would this fuel starvation manifest itself at the same point in every gear?

They've offered to fix it, but I am- of course- terrified of punting it into them and waiting for Whatever bill comes my way, not least of all as they're 5 hours from me which makes it tricky as well as potentially ruinous.

The only thing I've changed from the spec they set it up to is I've put in iridium plugs as recommended here by everyone, but I don't know if that would cause this?

So, anyone have any ideas where to start?

The person that correctly diagnosed this will get a box of Haribo sent directly to their actual face. I'm not even kidding. If it means I have to give up my precious Haribo to stop me torching this bike I'll do it. Think about it people, Haribo in your face. Just for sorting out this complex technical problem for free for a man you do t know but instinctively don't like. Come on. What's not to like? Apart from everything, obviously.

Help me, ObiDIII Dukobi, you're my only hope.

    Please?

  5. There's summat not right wi' it.

    Haribo?

  6. >sighs<

Fi-ne. I'll send Haribo, you send matches.

  7. Yeah, sorry.
Can't really help on this as it is too complex/annoying to work out, especially as you have already done all the obvious plug/relay changes etc.

Are there any other specialists near to you that could help?
    I wouldn't travel 5 minutes to get to P.T. but that's a different story.
    Hope you get it sorted.

  8. Not really fella. The problem is it really needs to either go on a road test to show up the problem - but it's not road legal/ registered- or a rolling road, which my local expert doesn't have. Unless you think they can test ride it on a trade plate?

Please feel free to pm your thoughts on PT. I'd be really keen to hear what you've got to say fella.

  9. Does it have the oem exhaust? Is the flapper working?

  10. That was my first thought and question to ask. Sounds typical of the same fault with the Multistrada. Andy

  11. It has a Leo Vince system. It's a full system, I think. You think I'd know by now the amount I've had the thing apart.

Where is it? What should I look for? How can I check it?

I'm so sorry. I'm well aware the romance is dead for us all. I'll keep trying tho.

  12. Does it have this tray thing?

  13. I don't think so, no. Does this mean no simple fix?

    Oh.

  14. Not the flapper then. :Banghead:

  15. Nervy SMASH.

    Nervy sad.

  16. Nice forks.

If you can't fix it....one match and..WOOF! Up she goes!

  17. Send matches, stat.

  18. If the fuel delivery system is all good including pump pressure, then I'd next check ignition pick up gap and if correct then change/swop the pick up.

  19. God I wish I knew what any of that meant. Thank you tho.

  20. Just a thought. When I fitted the new fuel filter, I reattached it to the fuel hose using a jubilee clip rather than those awful crushy springy clampy crimpy things. Could this be cause the fuel starvation issue at all?
