I would be the purchaser of said eBay item. I will let you know how I get on, but it looks as if I will only have to change the under belly section and not the whole system (it has the same fixing as our 959 going up to the headers, which is different to the 899/1199/1299 systems). The added advantage of that is that our flapper valve is not above that join like on the US version, so it will be flapper valve-less if it works. I was thinking about cutting my existing fairings, but have picked up a set of lowers from my dealer because all the second hand ones were scratched/damaged or nearly as much as a new set. I may mark mine up and cut them when I do the switchover to sell on.
Good stuff, just be aware that removal of the flapper valve on the 959 will give you a warning light on the dash.
what are the benefits or removing the flapper valve? doe it effect fueling or just noise? i spoke to moto rapido and they said the fairings were about £400 the pair, which i didnt think was too bad They would do them as a deal with the akra slip on so £2700 all in with the up map - not sure why you need an up map for a slip on though? they also said they could remap the standard ecu to suit an aftermarket exhaust and any error lights on the dash could be coded out
Iang27, if you compare this exhaust to the original is there big differences with the sound? How loud?
also could you weigh both exhausts for comparison - I cant see there being anything in it but interesting to know
I am sure £2700 is what everyone is doing the slipons for, so I am not sure it is much of a deal. However, I would push for less because the panels are £400 and I am sure I have seen the Akra slipons with up map for £2200. The up map is because there will be a lot more resistance in the cat and end pipes of the Euro 4 compared to the race use only Akra replacement. Flapper valve is just noise on tickover from what I can work out. Arguably slightly more flow, but negligible. I would not have bothered, but it will be an added bonus if the swap works out.
I think Akra quote 1.5kg? I am interested to weigh the US vs Euro equivalent to see if there is any saving there also.
£2700 included the fairing panels so you are basically getting them for free... still expensive! the weight i am interested in is the OEM EU vs USA exhaust i dont know if the quoted akrapovic weight is for their underbelly vs the 1299 / US 959 underbelly or the EU 959 side exit. 1.5kg is pretty poor saving! the double shotgun akra saves about that over the standard pipe apparently, which i dont know if i beleive as the OEM pipes are not meant to be too heavy, its the cat that has all the weight
Just get it turned off by local specialist No, I have seen the exhaust and up-map for £2,200 and the panels are £400, so £2,600 total.... So not getting them for free at all, it is included in their price (as it should be). My point is just that £2,700 is a price they are making money at, and not really a "deal"...
I bet they are making money still yeah. Rrp for the exhaust alone is £2700 though so they have done something with the price at least. Irrelevant anyway as I wouldn't pay that sort of money for a slip on exhaust that saved 1.5kg!
Make an offer is a pain in the ass, offer. 50 quid you insult them, offer 500 are they are maybe too happy. As said, bid reduction on the online price.
Man, I love the bike, but gods honest truth he sound of that exhaust sounds exactly like my Z200 flattracker for sale on ebay at the Mo!!!! Honestly I'm not taking the pi*s
The AR is louder than standard but not overly loud. I think it would still pass track day noise tests. Removing the flapper cable made it louder but the engine management light came on. It weighs next to nothing though. I could never spend £2700 on a slip on exhaust, put that on top of the 959 price and you could nearly get a 1299.
I think it looks good....underslung would be better of course as its the "Panigale way" but Austin pipes look nice...like the look, style and noise they make. Ive had an Austin on my rsv4 and the old Austin from said RSV4 is now on my z1ooo. Kind of a trade off for the euro 4 stuff and to put a positive spin on it....yeah - euro 4 is here and ducati have increased the engine size to push more out through a restricted stock exhaust which most of us will bin at the first opportunity so you get the bigger motor and more out of it when you do the swap...
