'93 900 Supersport Rebuild Thread

  1. Absolutely not to argue with anyone - we all have our own opinions and experiences. However, in my case, when I fitted JE's, despite the fact that it said "11:1 CR" on the box, when fitted (dry build as Sev outlined) the actual measured CR was over 13:1. As its only a road bike, I reckoned this was too high, and machined accordingly.
Hence I'd always advocate checking it

  2. Im certainly not gonna argue about anything, theres a vast knowlegde base on here hence the reason I post many questions, its all good. I will check it, however, reckon itll be once its together and I measure compresion on a gauge, dont trust my maths.

Oil lines arrived, not quite lined up the unions there will be a slight twist but it'll be ok.

  4. I spoke too soon, you can twist the end gently and it'll move. Homemade stand needs painted too.... 1464865935637373693439.jpg

And look at those rusty old union bolts you are using.......

  6. Well spotted Al, new Hel stainless on their way, it was just a test fit.

Got my head screwed on tonight! Head nut tool twisted so needs more metal welded to strengthen. Oil lines look ok too, wasnt sure of the red I chose. Rebuild other head then into bike! Wow, getting there......

  10. Have you worked out how to lockwire your sump plug and the screen filter nut yet? lw.jpg

If you use a K&N oli filter it lockwires nicely in a 2mm hole you drill in one of those forward sump fins.

  11. How do you drill the sump plug, at what angle?
I bought K and N before, they are good but thrice the price of the MANN filters I curreny use. I emlloy a large hose clamp around the filter and lockwire to that. Good idea to use the fin however might just lockwire it to the mesh filter plug. Previously wired it around the downpipe....

  12. Drill the plug through the flat face at approx 30 degrees into the socket ie, so the hole comes out in the socket not that far down from the face..........I did two holes, opposite each other...........IIRC it is brass so it should drill easily..........mine did anyway......
    1mm dia drill.

  13. Cool thanks.

  14. Coming together very nicely.

  15. Its Sil motor Sev, full system. Its nice.

The rear downpipe springs only seem to go on as in the pic where the holes are on the underside, if I have the holes on the bracket on the top then the springs aren't stretched. If that makes sense.

  16. Cool, looks a bit wierd in the pic just made me wonder. Thanks Sev.

    Purple spring means awesomeness

  18. Looking great! But what about that impending panging feeling the chunky swingarm and Ohlins shock?

  19. Rich, I dont want an Ohlins, hence the reason I bought Maxton. I have however thought about Metmachex...
