Ok so i got the typical radiator leak ... have others just bought new radiator, a pattern part or repaired theirs Thanks
Proper professional repair should be a cost effective option if they are prepared to do it. Otherwise 2nd hand from a reputable source if you don't have the disposable reddies although there is a risk in this route. New has a certain peace of mind element. IIRC, someone on here bought a Chinese clone and was very happy with it. Andy
Yep, me. 2 months in and 1,000 miles later, it's spot on. There was no way I was giving Ducati £650 for a part with a known quality issue.
I read your posts and followed your links but they dont have any radiators left ... few on ebay but a month for delivery and they're double the price
Oh dear. Well if you read the thread, you can see I repaired my original rad with liquid metal and seemed fine under a soapy water check. Worth a try before you go to Mr. Ducati. Even at £100ish, they are better value than the OEM part and I would have paid that if that was the cost when I bought mine.
Ducati are still replacing some for free under goodwill. My bike is 5 years old now and a contact @ Ducati Lincoln said they would swop mine no problem if it fails. (I hasn't yet) BB1000, this chap at Lincoln Ducati is good mates with Griff so you could try going that route if you get no joy from local dealers to you. Nothing to lose etc.
I am about to 'panic buy' and get one from a similar source in the hope they all 'much of a muchness' :- Replacement Cooler Radiator For DUCATI 848 1098 S 1098R 1198S 2008 09 10 2011 | eBay
Well, they wouldn't with mine. As the bike has been laid up for periods it wasn't serviced on the dot. They used this to wriggle out of it. My dealer is spot on and called Ducati UK a few times on my behalf without success. He then offered me a new one at cost. I went for the Chinese one.
Agree, I only have to think back to the disgraceful shambles surrounding 748 etc opener rockers to know that the warranty route would almost certainly waste my time and definitely wind me up. The buck lies with D. Italy, I'm not commenting on U.K.
Hopefully I never have to test the theory but I was led to believe that they could make it happen if I needed one. It is via an inside track to the dealer service dept so I might not get the same answer were I walking in off the street I guess. I suspect Ducati are just throwing them back at KTM anyway so it might not actually be costing them directly.
Just dropped it off at a local well known radiator repair place ... once tested and letting me know if its repairable and cost, it will take about week If that goes ok i will reinforce the area with some jb weld .. will not be paying 500 plus for a new one thats for sure Then i got to decide what coolant to put back in lol
Sorry to hear that Matt, how annoying for you. I thought our bikes were immune as later versions of the model. What year is yours, is it 2010?
So good news ... they have repaired it and should be ready to pick up tomorrow. .. £75 ... quite happy with that as a new one is £600, they told me why it had failed which was good as that to me says they knew what they were against ... and i dont like the idea of a Chinese one that will take a month to get, so 75 quid well spent imo
Kempston radiators done a good job by the looks of it ... installed tonight and ran up to temp ... so far so good
Have gone the same route as Andy*, bought spare for £68 will arrive within a week, if mine fails I can repair original at my leisure. * it was thanks to you, supplying information and pictures that I could confidently go-ahead and order my own.
