749 Crc Rear Tail Unit Fitted...,

  1. Started trying to fit mine this morning and i'm having problems getting the seat pad to sit square against the front of the tank, there's more space at one side than the other ,I think the right side lug needs quite a bit of material taking off it to square things up, how much did you need to shave of the side lugs to get things to sit squarely?....its not a million miles away but I'm a bit o.c.d. with things being straight and it has to look right :D .

  2. I had that problem. I maybe took off a few mm. But of course you don't want to go all the way through the lugs. And its surprising how small you need to shave off to make the biggest difference. I think they are designed slightly more exaggerated so you can square things up.

Also under the rear part of the tail. The bit that has the lug that sits on top of your subframe. I had to cut a bit off as the tail sat too high for my liking. I took my time as wanted to get it right too. Also, if you get it reasonably good, you can slightly sand the very front of the seat unit (the curve bit that sits around the tank) as the crc foam seat overhangs it. Again mm at a time. You will become a master of taking it on and off by the time you are finished!

  3. I will get there eventually, patience is the key, i also cut the rear tail lug down by quite a bit ,I too felt it sat too high , I also noticed that the seat sits a few cm's higher than the OE saddle, i'll hopefully get it fitted properly over the weekend, time permitting...i'll post some pics.

  4. Slight setback...whilst filing the right side lug (carefully!) the inset steel washer came loose and fell out,i've had to resort to aralditing a fresh washer on to the end of the lug, getting this seat unit to fit properly is proving more involving than first appeared...and I've also somehow managed to put a small chip in the paint of the tank, don't know how it happened, but i'm pissed off about it, even though the front of the CRC seat hides it I know its there :Banghead:...that's enough for today, gonna have a beer or 3.

  5. Oh dear!...well the araldite will be ok with a new washer and like you say knowing you have a mark on your paint, even though you can't see it is annoying. I scratched my screen today whilst polishing and my watch caught it, its only 5mm, you can not see it, but I know its there! It will be worth it, but like you say, you just have to put some work in to get it perfect. Im the same as you, everything has to be just so.

  6. Almost finished ,just got to shape the foam to go underneath it for a bit more support, went out for a quick ride this morning and the seat height is slightly higher than the OE, meaning a bit more pressure on my wrists and neck...I think its worth it ,its not everyones cup of tea but I like how it looks :D DSC_0674.JPG DSC_0673.JPG

  7. Looking good. Nice paint job. Worth it in the end. Although the tail unit is slightly different it still retains the same shape as the OEM rewards of the rider seat.

  8. Hi @Chris.King1 ( or anyone else ;) ).

Do you still have this fitted? I have acquired the same fairing, already painted, brand new and ready to fit.

I have it mostly fitted but the rear is too high for me and I see you say that you sanded the rest lug that sits on the exhaust, did you also have to bolt this lug down somehow and if so how did you do it?

    Bluey.

  9. When I had it fitted to my bike I also thought the rear sat too high above the exhaust, and I couldn't figure out how to attach the rear lug to the subframe so in the end I removed it!...(the lug).
I would also recommend tapping the holes in the side of the subframe where the OE seat fits with an 8mm thread, makes fitting and removing much easier.
It took a lot of faffing about to get it all fitted properly but it does give a different look.

  10. Lovely thanks mate. I have already tapped the subframe to take an 8 mm thread.

The OE unit does not have this 'leg' so wondering why it is there as there is no way to fix it down. Id like to fix it in place if possible. Any ideas?

  11. either
I can only think that the CRC seat unit might be designed for a Biposta, mine is a Mono and I assume yours is too?...there are differences between Bip and Mono subframes.

I couldn't figure out a way of attaching the lug to my subframe either ,and I thought long and hard about it...good luck.

  12. Interesting that it might be designed to fit the bip subframe.
    I do like the look...
