Exhaust valve & servo motor info and warning....

  1. Nightmare. Can't say I've been impressed with some of build quality and had to buy a new battery as original one failed.
Looking at pic of mine do you think it's worth trying to get it replaced under warranty or isn't it that bad compared to yours?

  2. Dunno, haven't got a picture of my valve to compare...

This was my cable in August:

... and this was the cable in November:

  3. Getting really annoyed with mine now. It's just not holding up to the winter weather.
Got the EXVL error message the other day, literally 24 hours after I had JUST given the bike a damn good clean and ACF50'd the entire thing, including the valve.
Rusted stuck - not in any meaningful way - its just the two contact points, came free by pushing it with my finger.
Been fine for a week or two and not seen the error since, but its obviously stuck closed again as the bike is running like a bag of spanners - won't rev, no urgency same as it was when the error came up.

It's in for a service next month and I have warranty - is a replacement any better than the original on a 2012 plate?
Or should I just get the service done and then replace the headers ;)

  4. They will (should!.....LOTS have been) replace the valve under warranty. Unless there's been a change with the very latest Multi's the valve will be exactly the same! Decat kit is the answer.......with other benefits :D

  5. Yes, they just 'fool' the ECU as if the exhaust valve is still present and working...........if you come over this way at all Chris at CJS can switch off the exhaust valve in the ECU ;-)

  6. Hi guys
How much is Ducati going to rob me if I have to have the exhaust valve changed
Yes you are all correct it is stuck I tried we 40 but it still sticking
    I try tomorrow bit more

  7. AFAIK, you can't replace the exhaust valve by itself, you'd need the whole exhaust 'union', part number 57313482A. I can't find a UK price, but I seem to remember it being several hundred pounds, at least.

If it's stuck open (or you can force it open), you might be able to get away with cutting or disconnecting the cable. I did that on mine temporarily (when the second one failed), and it didn't give an EXVL error on the dash.

  8. It sticks inside rather than the rust fest that is the outside thing. So spraying it with WD has little effect in my experience.
Take the rear silencer off and you can push the valve around to work it loose then lube it up in there.

  9. The valve on mine was stuck and dealer freed it up but I haven't been able to ride any due to knee injury and surgery. Rode a couple weeks ago and boggy acceleration above 5k rpm. Suspected the valve-it had no miles on it since dealer service in June-pulled the cover and it was stuck partway closed. Your video shows it cycling at ignition on and stroking/closing anytime the throttle is opened, which seems odd but whatever. I checked mine for operation and it tries to stroke at ignition on and sticks so I pushed it back open and it doesn't even try to close when throttling up, even tried it in gear. Cable remained loose throughout. Servo motor bad? I do not and have not received any error codes on dash. Dealer says he cleared the code for the valve at time of service. What happens if I remove the cable from the valve and let it hang free?

  10. Yours is a 2014, right? No problem, It Just Works.

I did that with mine, twice: first time I had to cut the cable, because I was away somewhere, couldn't get the cable free and needed a quick fix; second time (after having the cat and cable replaced under warranty) I just unhooked the cable.

  11. Yes to 2014 my. Disconnected cable and installed spring on cable end. turned valve to full open. Bike runs great now. Thinking of getting the dealer to warranty the exhaust anyway, in case I want to sell it. Then get a MIVV midpipe and muffler setup for my own use. I thought it interesting that the dealer said he was trying to save me money by working on the valve for an extra day to get it to move instead of replacing it. Bike is still under warranty...?

  12. ... and presumably Ducati will pay the labour charges for the extra day's work on releasing the valve, and then pay the labour charge for the inevitable subsequent replacement. And I'd be amazed if anybody could spend a whole day trying to free up the valve.

  13. There was a bolt on the clamp they couldn't get loose too so they cut the clamp to get muffler off because they were installing new tires at same time. Welded clamp back together. I presume the clamp bolt is still stuck, don't remember about that. I was on crutches at the time.

  14. I was curious how much this part is so I just looked it up, $1440.00 in US dollars. And amazingly the muffler thing is $864.00, without covers. No wonder they don't want to replace under warranty. Why would they build a valve in such a way that it cannot be removed and serviced? And they join it to an expensive part. I wonder if Ducati's official position is "if the valve is sticking just disconnect it".

I just checked and I have 58 miles on the bike since June 25 when the valve was freed up and I was told it should be good, in fact he said it may rattle a bit because it had loose motion. Has not been in rain at all and the external pivot and spring are not corroded enough to stop movement. Must be the pivot shaft and bushings sticking.

  15. Just got off phone with dealer and they say no warranty replacement, considered a normal wear and tear item like the clutch (???). It's not even a replaceable part! Clutch or brake pads can be replaced.

  16. Sorry but I think the dealer's pulling your leg, no way is that a service item. And if my clutch went in such a short time I'd be looking for a warranty claim on that as well.

  17. You don't say. Gonna talk to different dealer.

  18. The best long term solution is decat.

  19. I know, but then have to add fueling modifier, PCV or Tune boy, which is more money and some complication. Full Termi with upmap is even MORE money. [emoji47]
