959 New 959 Panigale

  1. Can you not just leave the servo plugged in but remove the cables so the bike thinks the butterfly valve is still fitted?

  2. Some bikes seem to need to cycle the valve as a sort of auto calibration at start up, with the cable removed it can't do that. This would be my guess as to why they removed the servo not the cables?

  3. How does the bike know if the valve is connected to the motor of not though? I can't see the butterfly having any means of position sensor, I would assume the bike only 'knows' the position of the valve by referring to the position of the motor

I've replaced systems on gsxr's, r6's and fireblades and always just left the motor connected to the ecu but removed the valve cables so the bike thinks it's working the valve, even though it's not fitted. Basically the motor still turns as if it were working the valve but there's nothing connected to it, but the bike wouldn't know this.

If you have the motor still I would try reconnecting the wiring harness to it and see if it solves the fault light without coding anything out via OBD etc

  4. This is a good shout. I'd just be interested to see if the light goes off with the box plugged back in, which I expect it will. I doubt the 959 is different compared with the 899/1199 in that just unplugging the cable does the job with no warning light. If Ducati Manchester are going to be deleting the fault code fairly soon for you though then I guess you might as well'd just go for that option :upyeah:

  5. If your flappy valve and motor is anything like the 1200 Multistrada, the Leo Vince decat pipe came with a dead weight that you screwed to the motor in place of the cable quadrant and fooled it into thinking it was operating the flappy valve. Andy

  6. I replaced the mid pipe on my M796 for a M696 mid pipe as this has no flapper valve where the M796 does. Then I could ditch the flapper valve motor & cables.
Also fitted SC Project end cans, plugged the Lamda sensors & fitted a Piper Cross filter.
Neil at CornerSpeed did me a reflash on the ECU so no warning lights are visible on the dash.

  7. I've disconnected my flapper cable before and been out for a blast with no warnings or issues (apart from a massive flat spot...).

  8. Exactly, most newer valves have strain sensors within the motor and that's how they know when to stop etc.

  9. On the 848/1098 etc you could use a small plate to replace the cable system on the actuator.

  10. Thanks thats helpful. Thankfully Ducati are going to remove the fault from the ECU.
    Cheers

  11. It's a bit strange, on my old 1098, if you just disconnected the cables or the electric wires from the servo, you get an CEL/Error display. There is this shown mechanical solution which simulates the stop positions of the flapper valve, or a different mapping eliminates the servo operation while engine is running.

On the 899, 1199, 1299 (all Euro 3), you can just disconnect the plug from servo or cable from flapper, no visible CEL/Error, although there is an error code stored in the ECU.

On Euro 4 bikes (like 959), my dealer told me that disconnecting servo (mechanical and electrical) always throw a visible CEL/Error (mandatory by new regulation). But I guess there are solutions for this as well, e.g. with a new mapping.

  12. Hi there Monsterleerob, I want to fit the 1299 underslung cans on my 959. The dealer (Johannesburg, South Africa) says the engine light can't be switched off. Did you get the light turned off?
    Thanks, H Man

  13. All you need to do to not have the engine light if you've removed the (0.6kg) servo motor is buy the blanking plug connector from Ducati. It's a very easy job that you can do yourself just by removing the left side fairing as you're sitting on the bike. The plug is under the battery in a cluster of three plugs.

  14. This has been incredibly useful - thanks. You seem to very knowledgeable on the matter. Can the standard map work fine with the 1299 pipe?

  15. I bought a healtech servo eliminator to remove the motor.

  16. I'm not sure of the difference it makes but ideally I would look to get it mapped as with any exhaust change as perhaps it will be running a bit lean.

  17. Hi I done the same mod,i see there is a few standard 1299 exhausts on auction site,i have spare 1299 lower fairing.

  18. I am just removing the flapper valve motor to save a little weight.

Does anyone know if it defaults to open or closed when the cable is disconnected?

Can easy check by removing the can but wondered if anyone knew to save me the hassle

  19. Defaults to open, some cut the valve out but it's questionable whether it makes any difference

  20. Do you have both lower 1299 fairings spare?

It doesn't matter what colour as I'd probably get them painted

Just weighing up which exhaust to buy, 899/1199 or 1299 although the latter people are asking silly money so I'll probably go 899/1199
