1198s Traction Control

  1. The traction control on my 1198s works well, I have it set on 4 for trackdays and it has saved me a few times when I've caught a slippery patch and the rear tyre has tried to spin up under power. The dash lights show exactly how close you are getting to the point that it is going to cut in. It's gentle and just feels like I've backed off the throttle. At higher settings it is harsh. At Portimao for example on the final turn onto the main straight, at 125mph, knee down the third warning led is flickering telling me that's enough, the rear is sliding....

  4. Not true. I have an 1198S and TC works with standard ecu and pipes. You have to enable on the dash and change it to level 4 or less. or it is too intrusive. When it kicks in it has 4 levels of interference. Each with a red light. i think the first level retards the ignition slightly the next level a little more the third a little more then it starts to cut the fuel. it is very subtle until the fourth stage. Did a track weekend and did not notice it set on level 3. checked the data analiser afterwards and it was indeed working but not enough to cut fuel.

  5. Hi riders...

In the manual said, Level 1 to 4, is for expert.. Level 4 to 8 is for begineer to intermediate.. Is it.?

  6. Theoretically, yes. Personally I find the TC on my 1098R so agricultural, I don't bother with it. I prefer using my cat like reflexes :grinning:

  8. Thought i would try it out on my 2009 1198S when i first got it, set it on level 8 and the bike was almost unrideable, i eventually grasped the concept and dialled it in at level 3 and its much less intrusive ,in fact i didnt really know it was on.

  9. As said above the 1098r cuts fuel as well as sign which does make that a bit off the edge of a cliff, but different to the 1198s.

The nemesis system is night and day to the std system so much smoother.

  10. I have the Nemesis interface on mine. I thought the 1098R TC utilized ignition cut? I may be wrong. Not been wrong since July 88 though. Lost the toss before a game of snooker ;)

Anyhow, don't bother with the TC on the 1098R. Prefer manual mode from the right hand :astonished:

  11. 1098R traction does fuel and ign, 1198s is a step on and does it ignition. thats why there are two loom extensions for the adjuster on the fly kit one for 1098R the other for 1198s:upyeah:

Do you have the full nemesis kit or just the on the fly adjuster for the original ducati stuff? full nemesis is so much smoother than the original.

the thing is there are so many variable to take into account for the traction to work even ride height and type of tyres make a difference one bikes setting 3 is another bike 5.
there is even more variable with the full nemesis system as the angle of the sensor mounted at the rear of the bike alters the perimeters.

  12. I’m convinced that the conflicting opinions of the 1098R DTC are because in some cases the unit has been fitted upside down. Mine was upside down and it took months of trial and error and research to solve it.

The correct way is to have the cables coming out of the top. It looks untidy but it worked very well after being corrected.

  13. Every day's a school day :) Not sure the extent of my Nemesis overlap but suspect it's the change on the move type. I always have it set on 2, which feels like off tbh. It leaves big darkies and I feel it squirming about on some corner exits. I quite like it and feel all big and clever when it does that. Maybe I won't feel so smug when I high side to the moon one day
See you next month at PEC ;)

  14. Must be perfectly level too.

  15. Oh, I reckon mine may be upside down. Must check....although I never use the TC as it’s always been rubbish.

  16. thats just the std ducati TC unit not the full nemesis singing and dancing unit ;)
And im not so sure about level..... on the full nemesis there is an angle you set it up to in the settings which obviously moves about when you blow tyres up get on the bike adjust the ride height etc etc this is a critical setting as said angle tricks the system on too much or too little interference. hence one bikes 3 is another bikes 7..:punch:

  17. If it's upside down that will be the reason why it's rubbish.

  18. Interesting photograph, my traction control unit is mounted to a bracket that uses the two silver bits of metal behind where your’s is mounted. Andy

  19. The previous owner had it upside down on a custom made sheet of aluminum. I bought those mounting brackets so it could be set level and the correct way up.

After I sorted the DTC it was quicker than Panigales round the Hungaroring.
