Excessive wind ('uncledons' wings/wind deflectors)

  1. Refitted mine again, tried many ways but the L/H handguard still hits on full lock. Ho hum, guess I'll live with it.

  2. I found the same problem when fitting my aluminium wings and here's the easy fix.

Put the steering on full lock to the LEFT and note how much gap is on the right wing.
Loosen the 4 handle bar screws and wiggle the bars to the LEFT to reduce the distance on the right side by half.
Pinch up the 4 bolts and turn the bars to the RIGHT to see how it looks.

A simple bit of fine tuning and voila  ....now tighten the 4 bolts up...very important.

The small change in the positioning of the bars is not noticeable.

  3. So are you saying that the bars are off centre? Mine look spot on so I'm somewhat curious as to what causes this.

  4. Well mine looked spot on also and after the small movement to the side and slightly back, it still looks spot on.

As there's no defined centre on the bar, mark with it a marking pen before you start, just in case you need to go back, I'd be surprised it's any more than 3 to 4mm.

Also for some reason, my right hand indicator/brake assembly is about 8mm lower than the left.

I'm very happy with the results of the wings

  5. Or just alter your lock stops so you have a little less lock..?

Easy to do, and you will never notice the difference

  6. A friend has made an experimental mould to make a softer rubber grommet which I have sent over to John at Eagle screens. The rubber grommet will fit into the fairing recess and present a straight path for the screw. John has also been busy with the WD design and should have some good news very soon.

  7. I have a set of these for sale in black if anyone is interested? £25 shipped, PM me for details.

  8. Pm inbound

  9. Hi Nathan, did you get to post them yet? Am not sure if your pm box is full?

  10. Hi, yeah got your PM, have posted them to the address you gave, should be there soon.

  11. John at Eagle screens has now come up with a set of soft rubber grommets for people who had trouble installing his earlier version of the WD’s and has completed and tested his second take on them (see below).

Apparently version two has been re-shaped and is now moulded onto the fairing to provide a straight path for the fasteners into the fairing recess, making them a lot easier to install. The fasteners also blend into the cockpit more seamlessly.

For me this is the end of a project I undertook because my 2010 model was sending me deaf. The WD’s with my short screen, for me, brought back all the enjoyment of riding the bike until Ducati could come up with a new model sufficiently different to entice me once again to purchase.

Now have a 2013 Pikes Peak model and totally wrapped.

Would also like to thank John who has put up with me nagging him for what seems like years, and for his efforts, guidance and determination in getting this project to production.

John has a blurb about his new WD’s on his website www.eaglescreens.com.au

  12. Aside from being easier to fit, is there any advantage to the new style over old?

  13. My apologies Tripletrouble for taking so long to answer your question.

I have only seen pictures of the development path for the latest version of the WD’s. John at Eagle screens seemed to have focused on eliminating the space between the WD and the leading edge of the cockpit fairing, and making them very easy to fit as this seemed to be the major concern for most people. They also seem to blend more aesthetically onto the bike in my opinion.

For me the WD’s were effective on my bike with the short screen I used because they got rid of the air flow that came over the beak and under the screen, hitting me in the chest and then up under my helmet. I have summed up my thoughts elsewhere on the forum so will not bore you by repeating it all again.

The bottom line is that I would not have been able to ride my bike again, after I returned from a four day ride using the standard screen, because from then on, it was too painful on my ears and took away the all the fun in riding the bike.

I noticed on the various forums people were trying all sorts of other screens but with no clear results and much cost. I decided to get rid of the problem by minimising the air flow hitting me in the chest with the WD’s and over the top of the screen by using a short screen that at lease provided a laminar and less noisy airflow past the helmet.

On my 2013 model I have no concerns with either the short carbon screen provided or the standard screen. Neither screen makes it uncomfortable to ride the bike and have no effect on my ears. I would encourage anyone to have a test ride on the new model.

  14. Last trip on the MTS today and first trip with the 'wings' fitted. The good news is that they worked pretty well - the new owner should be pleased.

Test rode the new Hyperstrada and was completely smitten, it's much more my size and taste. Ordered and being picked up in two weeks. Well pleased.

  15. Make sure you still pop in this section of the forum for a chat :D ..............maybe you could write something up on comparing the MTS12 and the new Hyper ;-)

  16. It was Ducati Glasgow and they only had one in and it was in White. Fortunately it was the colour I wanted and she was mine :). I'm having heated grips, Termi, small carbon screen, crash bungs, top box, sat nag etc fitted. Extras certainly increase the price somewhat!

Really looking forward to getting her :)

  17. Will do Andy.

  18. Hypermotard/Hyperstrada or SP?

  19. Hyperstrada.

  20. I read this topic sometime during the "loooonnng" winter, and decided to make my own deflectors. Since I am a simple man, I decided to make the deflectors from the 3€ mudflap I bought from the local bike shop.

Mounting was done by simply opening the 2 fairing bolts on each side and by pushing the rubber mudflap between the fairings. It goes there about 5mm, which is apparently enough to keep them firmly in place once the bolts are tightened. Great mod, which ended up costing 3€ for me and 15min of cutting / assembling time. :upyeah:

Here are few pictures of the flaps in place. You really can't even see them unless you know what to look. This shape is my first try, and after riding with them, I am happy. Gets the wind of your shoulders pretty nicely!
