Well, I am impressed. Don‘t say that too often these days as I mature into a semi professional grump. That Bilt Hamber stuff works so well. Cleaned up my callipers and all the goop engrained pads and hardware. It did take the golden anodising off the single spring clip that I had.. opps. Beware. What I did learn from my project bike is that the 2 callipers are slightly different, both goldlines, but one with the Brembo Logo skimmed with a milling machine to show the alloy, the other one just a thinner logo under a full gold finish... Hmmmn. A bit more cleaning later, and the pads etc tell me why. Someone has just swapped a calliper at some point, as they have different pads. That will be sorted shortly anyway. Didn‘t realise Toshiba made brake pads...!
Anybody have experience of EBC Street HH Pads? Brembo SC‘s are top of the List, but a mate of mine mentioned these ones over the weekend.
I put them on my 748 a short while back. At first I didn’t like them as they were either ‘on’ or ‘off’ it seemed the slightest touch of the lever had almost full braking effect, the first pull on the lever was like hitting a brick wall. After a good few miles however I got used to the fact and now like them, significantly enhanced stopping power with much less pressure required.
Not anodising, as they're steel not Aluminium. They're not old enough to be Cadmium plated, so they'd have been Zinc plated then passivated (the gold colour). Glad the Bilt Hamber stuff works well - bought some myself to try last week. Useful configurator from Brembo - link pinched from another thread http://www.moto.brembo.com/en - shows SC as Racing pads so possibly not the best for road use. Useful info on the page prior to the configurator too.
Cheers Paul, interesting, they sound like the Pagid 14 pads we used to use in Lotus’, they felt like they almost increased the braking during a press, but you got used to the characteristics and they were actually great. Another one for the shortlist..
Yes indeed, not anodising, I was being lazy and not googling the appropriate finishing process. But good to know how it was done. At £25 each I think I will stick with the sliver look on one side..
As these Goldlines are non standard on my bike I am not sure which reference bike / year I should use to get the correct pads? Can anyone help there please?
Thanks for all the great tips fellas, out on the bike yesterday with my shiny clean callipers, Accu SS bolts and EBC HH pads and new pins. Great feel to the brakes, much more positive feel.
