Yeah, it's just full/dipped beam. Not actually had it on so can't comment on brightness. I'm not too worried as I never ride after dark, although I do ride with my lights on all the time. Not too sure about higher wattage or light type etc.
It's been a good while since my last update - The 1098 is proving to be quite a distraction! Anyway, yesterday and today was spent fibre glassing and gel coating the seat unit. The process went very well as the old man, who used to do fibre glass repairs, was helping me. Firstly a couple of layers of tissue was applied and allowed to set, then two layers of the fibre glass were applied and allowed to set. Then the whole thing was rubbed down and cleaned up with acetone. Then two coats of gel coat were applied, ready to be rubbed down tomorrow. Then the seat unit, tank and front fender will be given to a friend who is going to paint them up for me.
With the weather being utterly shit, there's been no excuses over the last couple of days so I've been progressing with the build. So with a fair amount of sanding done that's the seat unit good to go. I made the decision to gel coat the edges as well as the back end so as to leave a smoother area between the 'hump' and the edges. Also, the tank has been rubbed down and I've included a photo of the front fender showing the chipping. All 3 items are now going to be given to my painter mate. The new battery has been delivered. It's getting there . . .
Hi, post #68 engine before and after - apologies if I've missed the detail but how did you re-finish the casings was it power coating? I've been quoted a ball park figure of £400 to powder coat my SS engine, which seems a lot to me. How else can it be done, zinc aluminium spray?
Hi @ck_uk No, I cleaned/degreased everything then applied a high temperature 'rattle can' spray paint. The results looked good initially, but with sitting in the shed while the rebuild continues, even without getting wet/dirty, they seem to have 'furred' up a bit. I'll call it patina! I think powder coat would give you a better, more sustainable finish? My frame and swing arm are powder coated and I really like the finish. As for price, I think it cost me £35 to get my swing arm done. Hope this helps. Cheers
