Factory Racing 748

  1. Can 748RS engines be 853'd?

To be honest that looks like a nice healthy map for hwat you want to use the bike for.

  2. No reason not to and something like the EVR 853 kit should do the job. From experience the 853 improves the torque more than the power but the plan is to ride the bike all next year before deciding if there is more to come. The power delivery of this engine is one of the best I have had and I'm looking forward to riding it. There is also using better tyres to go but the limiting factors are my ability and the metaphorical size of my balls. Andy

  3. 54mm de restricted throttle bodies and RS throttle body venturis. Andy

  4. Ouch! Can't afford all that but I just might take a punt and ask for one or two bits and pieces. Thanks for remembering my project. Andy

  5. EVR high compression 853 conversion kit purchased and collected this morning. As I retire in a couple of months, the plan is to buy parts to improve/upgrade the project whilst I'm still being paid even if the parts won't be incorporated next winter. Andy

  6. Interesting, I have bought a spare early 748 engine to upgrade with a few tuning mods that I have, but I have always fancied the 853 conversion to add to it. What's the EVR quality like? is it some sort of service exchange for stock barrels?

  7. EVR manufacture a complete kit which includes new barrels, pistons, rings and wrist pins. For good measure you also get head gaskets, air filter foam inserts, wire grills for the nose cone and an EPROM upgrade. Comes in standard or high compression for the 748R. Quality looks fine and the pistons are Pistal. I went straight for EVR because they were recommended so I'm not sure about what else is out there. Andy

  8. as long as its pistal, all good :upyeah:

  9. and expensive :Arghh:. Andy

  10. Out of interest where did you get your EVR kit from? I'm still toying with this idea.

  11. Sourced the kit through Craig at Moto Rapido and cost 1300 € + vat. Have a look at edovignaracing.com. Andy

  12. Genuine question.....who is going to build the engine..and at what cost?

  13. Barry at Moto Rapido who assembled my RS in the first place and who rebuilt my girlfriends NC29 when the inlet cam let go so I know and appreciate his workmanship. The conversion will be done as part of the RS rebuild/service after about 1000 miles or next winter if I get impatient. The budget is £1000 in anticipation their labour rate will be discounted as it has for the last few years during December and January for track bike work and will also include rebuilding the heads with 748R cams and indexing cam pulleys. Andy

  14. nice, be around 128rwbhp 72ft/lbs

  15. I can live in hope :upyeah:. I understand where andyb is coming from and I appreciate the workmanship that is going into the specials marrying bigger engines with the earlier generation frames but there is just something for me about making the 748 mine. Might not make sense to many spending the sort of money I'm prepared to but I just get a buzz out of hopefully developing something a little bit different and special to me to play with in my dotage.
