1199 Tank Range And Reserve

  1. Usual 90 to 100 mile then light, I have ran then to 133 miles filled up and I couldn't get over 15 litres in it. So now I run 20 miles after light comes on, and still never get 15 litres, always around 14.5... I fill standing off bike...

  2. Same as most people average on here. 90 to 100 miles before the light comes on. Run from Cheltenham to west London so a mix of roads a40 / m40. Then did 7.8 miles and filled up with 13 litres. Always use super unleaded.... Might get a few extra miles due to this....???

  3. Is the 1199 the same as the 899 with fuel lights? First light at 5 litres left then stays on at 3 litres left?

  4. Almost a guaranteed max of 90 miles for me then the light comes on. I have never gone further than 5-10 miles with the reserve light on so do no know my out of fuel distance is.

  5. Bobthedog, It's the reserve that I'm trying to establish. I figured it would be helpful for all of us to know what range we have....without resorting to pushing. Royal seems to have tested this well at 18 and 20 miles on reserve.

Triari, I take it you were forced to stop at 25 miles? Very sporting of your wife to push you to the gas station.

I just couldn't believe I'd done 17.1 miles since the clock automatically zero'd and still had 2.5 litres left in it. Now I'm thinking maybe I could have squeezed a bit more in the tank when I filled it but I had the bike upright and if... I could have dribbled any more in, it wouldn't have been even half a litre.

So how many miles could I have done with the remaining let's say 2 litres?

Full tank, say max at 100 miles to reserve( that's generous but easy maths). 12ltrs gone. = 8.33/ltr

    5ltr reserve x 8.33= 41.65miles. I don't believe that.

    90 mile tank range divide by 12ltrs = 7.5 miles/ltre

5ltr reserve x 7.5= 37.5 mile reserve range. Don't believe that either. I think Tiari's wife would have to be pushing me for quite a few of those miles.

17.1 miles + 2ltres at 7.5miles/ltr= 32.1 miles on reserve. Nah, think we'd have to get Triari's wife out again.

So I figure 25 miles as Triari says... maybe and the bike likes to keep some in the tank.

    Any other info gratefully accepted.

Triari, can you send me your wife's phone number, I might need a push.

  6. The bike gave a little warning that it was about to run out so I went over to lane 1 and as I did it conked out, fortunately I pulled over to the hard shoulder.
Law of sods was I was about 50 yards from the exit off the motorway so was laughing as I thought serves me right for being lazy and not stopping earlier.
As expected no one stopped to help!

More than welcome to my wife's number fella, she's make a splendid cup of the earls finest as well as delivering fuel :)

  7. And I thought she'd pushed you to a gas station.

I'll keep her in mind if I ever need fuel delivering.
Not so keen on the Earl Grey, prefer Builders, white with one.

How many miles did you do on reserve before taking the picture? Presumably more than 25 if that's your limit now.

  8. Ducati Aylesbury said to me when I bought the 848, 20 miles max when the fuel light comes on. I still work to that figure on the 1199. My fuel light often comes on and goes off a few times. I use the 20 mile guide from the light being on constant.
I'd done just over 8 miles with the light on yesterday, almost 115 miles total, when I filled up. I put almost 14 litres in.

  9. I'd done 17.1 miles with the light on permanently, still had 2.5 litres in the tank. Work that one out.

I wasn't driving miss daisy either.

  10. Conked out on 25 :(
