You can use a bike charger as long as it does not the desulphate mode. What do you think the bike does? It bungs 14 volts into the battery and does not know what type of battery you have. Best thing to use is a small wall charger for an electronic device that puts out 2 amps DC voltage, they don't have a desulphate mode. There is no special electricity needed.
I have a Ctek MXS 5.0 (MXS 5.0 which has a bike setting so I'll just try that. But it seems less the charge was the issue more that it just didn't have enough amps?? to turn the engine over.
My cables are designed to improve the resistance drop from standard cables which deteriorate over time and maintain the same for life, so yes they will help noticeably - but I am sure I needed to charge my battery out of the box - the instructions said so I think? I put it on a specific lithium battery maintainer overnight before trying for the first time.
done same with a non lith charge , dont do it , lith charger very low amps , will blow if using ord charger
I don't have a lithium charger and now based on the above posts about batteries catching on fire I'm a little more worried... although perhaps on the motorcycle and monitoring it charging might be an option.. However, as I said I don't think the charge is the problem, more the power it has turn a high compression ratio engine over is the problem. Exige with my 'very simple knowledge it seems like your cables will reduce the resistance and, therefore increase the power that gets to the engine from the battery.. Do you have cables for a 796 Hyper? I couldn't see them on your website. I'm not giving up on this battery yet.. but I also don't want to have to buy a lithium charger also.
If you run the battery a bit low on starting the bikes charging system is quite capable of shoving 10 amps into the battery, you will never know, and it does not seem to catch fire then. Perhaps I should fit a special Lithium charging system to the bike too! I never charge any bike batteries while the bikes are parked up, and they have never needed it. The ST2 was sluggish to start the other day when the wife went out on it, but the starter brushes needed changing (£10) and now it is fine.
there is one lith battery that exceeds all other lith batteries with same or more if u want more cranking amps antigravity battery look it up they are the best but 160.00 quid
Bob T I see your point as it related to the bike charging the battery... however perhaps that is not as aggressive as a car battery charger.... that is why I figure if it is on bike setting it should replicate the bikes charger. citr2cv my hyper is not different from others so it should need more amps than the next one. Perhaps I just have shitty cables.... who knows... I'll try Exige's cables and see if that fixes it.
If it's any help: I fitted the Marelli lithium battery and it worked ok but after also fitting @Exige's starter cables the bike really jumped into life...
Does your bike have an Earth (M8 Threaded Boss) here as in the picture? You can just see the head of the Cap Head Bolt behind the frame rail. This is a different Earth point to standard on the 1100/1100S Kit - if so this Kit will fit. If not then the 1100EVO Kit that I am just developing will fit by the looks of the Part Drawings.
Thanks Exige, I don't think the 796 has the same earth. here are some pics. Dosed that show you what you need to see.. I have my bike at work today so I can take some more pics. I'm near Goodge Street Station on the off chance you are anyway in London.
Ah just pop down Stu Doesn't look like there is a blank or a threaded M8 hole. Here are a few pics from multiple angles. Note to self, must clean bike this weekend.
Just to update this thread. Here is the earth on a 2011 796. I think the same as 1100 Hyper Evo. The yellow line traces the cable from the negative terminal to the earth point behind the cable cluster.
