Well she arrived this morning and I'm well chuffed, but had to leave soon after it arrived and when I came back it was raining hard, also a wee problem with insurance with MCE which hopefully I'll have sorted out tomorrow. Will take some pics and post as soon as I can, Can't tell you how happy I am though, she looked nice in the pics but so much better in the flesh.
Went out today for a wee ride and was crapping myself to be honest, but after 15 miles or so I started to settle in to the ride. Very happy the only thing is there's no gear indicator or am I not looking in the right place ? As is known the dry clutch is a bit noisy but to be honest I don't care!!! Keeping the panniers off for now till I'm more relaxed on the bike.
No gear indicator, you'll soon get used to the engine noise and know instinctively what gear you're in and when to change up/down. Big V-twins are never the easiest bikes to master, but the day you do get it you'll struggle to wipe the grin from your face.
You have a gear indicator - it's called the rev counter - keep it on 3K and above and hide your smile or you'll look a little bit deranged
Well here's the story, when the bike was delivered I thought I smelled fuel but couldn't see a leak and thought maybe it was just the delivery van. Took it out and all OK but could smell fuel in the morning, took it over to a mate of mines and the tank was showing empty! so filled her up. At my mates i could smell fuel but he said he couldn't! Anyhoo went home and had a good look and feel and there was petrol under near the seat, put a tray under the bike and waited till morning, and yes there was fuel in the tray called the dealer I bought it from and they said to book it into the nearest dealer which is in Glasgow, didn't want to ride it that far so this afternoon took it into Cupar motorcycles, they need to take the tank off etc but reckon there's some corrosion under the tank somewhere (I thought it was an O ring) So we will see what happens when they call me, it's a shame cos I was wanting to get out this week as I had set aside a few days to lounge around, instead I had the pleasure of waiting for a bus for 1 and a half hours. Will let you know how I get on ....
Nah not right now, I'll wait and see what Cupar M/C say, then I'll take it from there. Got to give the garage I got it from a wee chance.....
Well the garage stripped the tank off and where you can see the small threaded hole is where the leak is. They took it to a shop which repairs such things but they weren't will to touch it. So the garage in Exeter have been informed, I wait and see ....
The gear indicator is displayed on the lower left hand side of your primary instrument panel. If you can't see it then dont ride-you are technically blind

That means everyone else is on here lol I'll go out and test it right now......oh wait I can't cos it's in bits waiting for another tank I'll tell you if it has in 3 weeks time by then we will have snow and I'll slide into a ditch where noone will find me and I'll have to survive drinking to anti-freeze.....oh bugger it's air cooled and that's means I'll die a lonely death somewhere on a B road in Fife...................................................
Slickmouse - let me know how you get on. I've got a spare tank down the garage. It had warped so I coated it with Caswell (see multistrada.net for more details on this) - I've not put it back on as I bought a spare tank on German ebay for £200. The warping's caused by alcohol in petrol - most super unleaded fuels don't have alcohol, although Sainsbury's Super Unleaded and Shell V-Power do. How much did you pay for the bike?
based on the front of the engine block that looks very tidy and not seen much salt. ds1000 is a brilliant engine, pulls and pulls. quirky looking beastie but the handling of multi is really something even fully loaded and 2 up reckon thats a great buy apart from your little tank issue
